I almost had it!

I went to my first hockey game of the season today. Predators at the Kings. And I had a puck hit right at me! Now, I’ve caught a foul ball on the fly at a pro baseball game before, but let me tell you, that was not anywhere NEAR having a hard-to-see object come whizzing at you on a line. I got my fingers on it, but it had ricocheted off my hand before I could have even hoped to get my whole hand around it. And let me tell you, that sucker STUNG when it hit!

On the plus side, the father of the eight year-old kid sitting on my left thanked me for saving his son’s life, and then proceeded to lecture the poor kid about always paying attention to where the puck is.

So, while we’re at it, anybody else caught a foul ball, or a hockey puck, or whatever other sports object can make its way into the stands? Or come close?

There’s a reason goalies wear so much padding! Pucks are FAST!

I’ve never caught anything, as I’ve never been to a hockey or football game, though I did once go see the Expos play and someone in the 40+ person group I was in caught a foul ball. It was a German exchange student, so they thought it was pretty cool! I don’t remember who the opponent was, nor which team had hit that ball though. I wasn’t paying much attention to the game…I remember the Expos lost, though!

The day before my wedding, I went to a minor league baseball game in Fresno, CA. A foul ball came my way and hit me in the leg.

It bounced down and the guy in front of me grabbed it. :dubious:

Closest I’ve been.

I’ve been close to a foul ball once, but didn’t get it. (Kingdome, first-base side, behind the bullpen)

I caught a driver’s hat that he threw into the crowd at the end of a World Rally Championship event.

If it makes you feel better, I’ve been to an awful lot of hockey games over the years and I don’t think that I’ve ever seen any fan snag a puck out of the air. Those suckers are fast.

Got a batting-practice home run off the bat of an unknown Brave when I was at National’s Stadium back in Sept. I literally moved 3 feet to the left into a row of seats. It hit the palm of my hand, dropped straight down at my feet, and I picked it up.
