I already hate the new Hotmail interface

It is free. We know that, no need to say that twenty times.
However what we are mainly bitching about is that they changed something that was decent (well actually, bareable); to something that is a piece of shit.

Is there a way to contact them? I’m at my hotmail screen and I want to tell them what a shitty job they did and that about 90% of people agree so they need to change it back

BREAKING UPDATE ON THE SHITTYNESS:
After you send a message, the only way to send another one is to click on “mail” once again, then compose. A simple tag to “compose” fromt the sent mail screen? FUCK NO!

I guess Bob, the town´s idiot, got a job at MSN… :smack:

TV is free. Cable is not.

Radio is free. No, you can’t bitch. If you need to bitch, you need to switch stations. The difference here is that no one changes radio’s interface. One radio station is not any more convenient to use than another. Radio is radio is radio, you tune in, it turns on. You like the content or you move on to the next station.

Air is a highly improper parallel (not at all parallel, in fact). You have to breate air, you can’t choose to breate Yahoo air over Hotmail air. If you dont like what is happening in the air, you cant just use another brand.

The people here who pay for the extended service certainly should have a say in the changes made. The rest of us should be grateful that it exists in the first place.

Erm most TV comes in packages by ‘service providers’ so it’s not much of a stretch to link my IP’s connection to the net to a TV cable’s connection to the basic channels. I ‘pay’ on top of my connection for radio/TV by listening/watching the ads. Just like all the annoying banners/popups that are all over everything. Hotmail has a similar banner on it. Hotmail isn’t some saintly organization providing me with a service for no reason and they certainly pimp me enough with those “Don’t lose everything! Pay for our service so you can have more storage room!” emails. When they make changes that sucks people that use the service have the right to say ‘hey I don’t like this’. If hotmail responds to this feedback the service will get better for all. If it gets to be too much of a hassle benefit ratio for them I’m sure they’ll shut it down.

The Air statement was a joke. :stuck_out_tongue:

Hello – Hotmail is NOT FREE!

There are banner ads on every page. ‘Free’ Hotmail is an advertising delivery service, just like the little shopping papers outside the grocery store. The revenue stream is from the advertisers.

Yes, I know that this model was supposed to be the main revenue model for the web, and it failed miserably for 99.99% of the dotcoms. Doesn’t matter, the ads offset the costs (probably entirely, in the case of Hotmail), so it’s not free.

BTW, radio isn’t free either. It’s paid for in the same way. So is broadcast TV. Over 25% of the content on TV is advertising.

Just click twice on the Date column header.

I can’t see any difference? :\

Well, I don’t know about abrupt; they did send round a preview email a while back. They’re intending to bung a calendar in there, too, which would be nice if it syncs with Outlook. To fix your problem, monstro, just click on the word “Date” above the relevant column. If everything then seems upside-down, just click it again and it should be fine.

I don’t see what the problem is with the new interface, really; it’s just a bit different. I like the way the folders are more clearly organised, and that the more obvious functions now look like Outlook-style buttons. This is all trivial stuff though - the most important thing that I like is the “Junk” button, which essentially allows all of the millions upon millions of Hotmail users to participate in a mass spam-classifying system. This can only be a Good Thing.

Yes, thank you Microsoft, for taking an interface that was at least halfway usable and utterly crapifying it. We wuvs you.

How much do you get from M$ for shilling for them, collinsc?

i agree, it sucks. how can you return it to normal, if possible.

collinsc - they also get to advertise in our inboxes so its not like its a one way favor. They get paid to give us basic email services from advertisers. thats like saying you can’t complain about a cashier/food server/anyone’s services to you. They dont do that out of their goodness they are getting paid to provide those services they give you for ‘free’.

The main thing that I dislike about it is the fact you can’t open messages in new windows any more.

If it’s any help to anyone if you make a shortcut with the following url on your shortcuts bar:

javascript:eval("function G(sURL){window.open(sURL+'&'+document.location.search.substr(1,document.location.search.length));}");

(take out the space between “java” and “script”)
and then click it after your inbox has loaded, messages will open in new windows when you click on the links (works on Moz Firebird and IE6).

I haven’t invested the time to do a better fix yet because they’ll probably just change it all again.

This may help a tiny bit.

Click on the Mail tab,

Click on options (upper right corner),

Then click on the Hotmail Navigation anchor,

That lets you set the tabs back to how they were in the original version. This gives you a Compose tab on top.

There’s a bit in the ‘options’ area that supposedly lets you switch the style back to the previous one.

I clicked it, and didn’t notice any change however.

<< Insert something witty here. >>

And I should probably refresh my screen before posting.

Seems fine to me.

It’s shit shit shit shit shit.

Remember when Hotmail first got taken over?

I got a “Hotmail Staff” email that said words to the effect of:

That lasted about 6 months before they put an interstitial page on login, but strangely I never got a follow-up email saying

That it’s free doesn’t stop it from being a piece of shit.

I got my mom using hotmail because she is not all that computer savvy and hotmail was really simple. She just had it figured out and they changed it. She doesn’t understand the new system and she doesn’t like it. I don’t like it either, but at least I can adjust. By the time she figures out this crappy mess, they will change it again. Stupid hotmail.

Not only this stuff, but I tried to add an attachment a little while ago, and while the “Browse” button is right there in the middle of the screen, I coudn’t for the life of my find the Goddam “Attach” button.

You know why? Because it wasn’t fucking there! There is nothing that says attach any more. Now there is only a tiny little [sub]Ok[/sub] button at the top of the screen. Ok? OK!?

GAH!

**Web Browser Software Limitations
Your Current Software Will Limit Your Ability to Use Hotmail

You are using a web browser that Hotmail does not support. If you continue to use your current browser software we cannot guarantee that Hotmail will work correctly for you.

We recommend that you upgrade your web browsing software and invite you to download Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.**

Yeah, Micro$oft, I am using SOMEONE ELSES BROWSER! I do NOT want to use your bloatware Internet Exploder. Thank you SO MUCH for making hotmail compatible with only one browser, and I really, really appreciate you giving the link to get the One True Browser. I will repent immediately and grovel at the Altar of Bill.

Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.
