Why the heck did they had to forbid opening the e-mail in a new navigator window?, what´s the idea behind that? I can´t grasp it, what I know is that it´s irritating as hell. I´m disapointed, terribly disapointed.
By the way, Hotmail staff, here´s a finger for you. I have my own domain and webmail service, I don´t use it much because until now Hotmail had nice features, I think I´m switching services, besides I won´t get the 500 hundred spam mails a week.
Yeah, it´s a lame rant, sue me.
What I like is how it doesn’t tell you whether you have any new mail, only whether you have any new mail from a specific list of persons. To find out whether you have any new mail that’s not on a specific list of persons you have to click the “mail” tab at the top which is in an inconvenient location. And to delete email messages you have to click the “delete” tab at the top which is in an inconvenient location.
Yes, it’s a free service, so I guess we can’t expect much. But do they really have to change it from something that, even if it wasn’t pretty, was at least fairly usable, to something that’s completely useless?
I am also thinking of finally switching to my own e-mail. I’m sure it’s no big loss to them.
Yeah, I hate the new Hotmail interface. And I hated the old one, too, when it was new. And I hated the one before THAT, when it was new.
In fact, the only one I liked was the first one I ever saw, back in around '97 or '98 or so.
I’m getting closer and closer to going back to Yahoo mail which each new Hotmail upgrade. 'Course, by then, I should have my own domain name registered, complete with E-mail…
I did a bad thing. When I clicked on the “mail” tab, I then accidently clicked on the “from” at the top of the message list and everything got fucked up. I got messages from 2000 mixed in with messages from last week. Trivial, I know, but I really wish I could make my new messages appear at the top like it was…uh…just five hours ago!
Glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t like such abrupt changes!
You know, the ultra-simple format that was around before the mediocre one we just lost was far and away the best. I have to wonder WHY they did this new crap. It’s not as though adding graphics is going to reduce their bandwidth usage, and if they wanted to include links to other MSN sites or advertisers, a complete overhaul is way the fuck more work than needed.
And, Darkhold I agree. It always looks like the bottom one or two messages are highlighted.
Of course, I usually only check my email every day or two, but for a variety of reasons I’ve checked it three times today, giving me ample time to experience the shitiness
All of the other “new and improved” versions, hideous as they were, at least worked on the unix boxes in at school. Guess who can read email, but can’t delete?
And I’m grumpy about the refusal to open in new windows, too.
Yeah, well I’m one of the suckers who actually does pay the $10 or $20 or whatever a year so I don’t have to trash all my emails, so for me it’s not a free service.
And the new interface sucks. Their last interface sucked, too. I like the interface before that one. It was similar to the last interface, except that after you logged in, you went straight to the Inbox page. I don’t see any good reason for that extra page in between. Just slows the whole process down.
I guess I DO get to bitch about Hotmail, since I pay for it. Or at least, I pay for extra storage…right now, I’ve got about 1100 emails, just about all of them requiring some attention. The attenion required might just be to copy them into a file, but they all need attention.
You don’t want to KNOW how many legitimate emails I get per day. Let’s just say LOTS.
It is free, sure, but it’s not easy to change e-mail addresses. You have to ‘shop around’ and find an interface that you like, then you have to e-mail everyone you know, change your address on every mailing list you belong to, then you still have to periodically check your old e-mail because there’s always one or two idiots who don’t send stuff to your new e-mail. The process always takes me a few weeks or so to completely take effect.
