Outliving your problems does have a certain satisfaction.
As others have said to the OP, it’s OK to question your motives and reactions. Just don’t let anxiety about yourself rule you.

That was hilarious, mischievous. And this:
may be the best post here. I think that’s very true, lavenderviolet. (Oh, and thanks for sharing your link, monstro.)
I’m sorry, monstro. But this whole paragraph is hilarious. A part of me is thinking that whole incident was worth it just because it allowed you write this. Especially the part in bold.
This is a little reverse card on this thread but I thought it worth telling
First a description of me Texan, Gringo, Bald, Big Goatee, Ride Motorcycles, Wear Alot of Black
I am up in Denver(10/12 years ago) working for a few months and am really homesick for Tacos, real Tacos Taqueria Tacos and I am see Hispanics working everywhere so I know Tacos exist and one day I decide to go find them on the Bike, I drive for a couple of hours and turn a corner and the signs turn into Spanish, Jackpot! Taqueria so I whip in kill the bike and head for the door, this place is jam packed, families with babies screaming, guys with beers watching Liga Mexicana on TV, til I open the door Dead Silence, I mean not a peep and then I realize why, I look like a hate crime looking for a place to happen and I might have chosen this Taqueria, I could see that some of them were afraid and some of the men were getting that, is it time to bow up look? But I am undeterred because I can smell Menudo(gross) and that usually means killer tacos, so I go to the counter, where this poor girl of about 16 is just staring at me and shaking a little and I order, “por favor dos carne guisada y dos barbacoa on maise”. It was like someone hit the unmute button, everything went back to normal, I took my delicious tacos to go. Only one lesson here, be polite cheers all
The tiled ones are pretty awesome!
Anyway, I do think it’s an important distinction that your main concern was, essentially, about other people being racist. You weren’t passing judgment on the people sitting there, at least, not directly. Of course, you’re still not being “color blind” but I’ve grown less convinced that there really is such a thing. Color exists. Being aware of it and being aware of other people’s reaction to it is not racism in and of itself.
I love the other ones, the geometric ones. Whatever you call that design.
Irony: When I clicked on your link, the server came back with a message that this site is blocked because, get this, it’s on a blacklist.
I LOL’d. ![]()
Do you think that means my server is racist?
Oh wow! Your work is beautiful! I would gladly pay you for something. Just beautiful.
Wow, I like those flower pots! I hope I don’t already hate you, or you hate me, cause of some thread arguments we’ve had but I’ve forgotten. I would really hate to hate you, because I like your art.
Especially that green one.
Monstro, I really like your stuff! I would definitely pay you for one if I passed your table.
blushing
Thanks, guys!
Everyone’s a little bit racist, it’s truuuuuue…
…Sorry. My roommate really liked Avenue Q, and she got several of the songs stuck in my head.
Maybe you’re just over thinking things. Chill out. If you’re selling things you wouldn’t want any family reunion near you, even your own!
These are beautiful!
Suggestion -Don’t give them away. Put a price on them. Maybe a couple of dollars or a fiver. Make a sign that says all monies collected are locally donated. Maybe to a local woman’s shelter. Or an abandoned pet shelter. Something local. Or mix it up among various local places, changing the recipient every time you set up.
You’ll meet your desire to give away the gift you have and someone in need will receive that gift as well.
If you go this route, take notes. Does your table clear faster when everything is free? Or when you put a small price on it?
Is it racist to think that other people might be shied away from your stall? Not sure that it is really. I know that if there are a lot of Asians in a bar that most white people would walk to the next one, I don think I am racist in my observation.
montsro, a snippet from one of my poems, to you: “…like reading somebody else’s diary, titalating, but removed.”
Change is slow, like water dripping onto stone.
You noticed.
