I am Amazed!

I am Amazed by the persons posting to the Straight Dope Message Board.

  1. There a limited few who are courteous and forgiving of typos, and other mistakes common to all of us.

  2. Questions are asked which could have been easily answered by a web search and/or consulting a good dictionary.

  3. Questions are often too general and lack specifics provide an intelligent or complete answer

  4. Answers all too frequently do not answer all parts ot the question/post

  5. Answers are posted which have little or no relevance to the topic.

  6. And how is it that there are so many posts by persons with a limited and vulgar if not obscene vocabulary?

Phew!

Fuck if I know.

Don’t be too hard on yourself spingears.

Hah! Good one, lieu

Seriously, though spingears try to think of the SDMB as more of an on-line community and less of an infallible reference. This isn’t a gathering of experts designed to give professional advice on any given topic, it’s more like a huge room where people can wander in and out and move from group to group, shooting the breeze and chatting about whatever takes their fancy.

Having said that, some of the Dopers on this board have come up with excellent, pertinent, useful and thorough answers to some very escoteric and/or difficult questions. If I need an impartial opinion, I come here first.

I’m amazed that this is apparently your first experience with message boards. This one is well above average.

I’m amazed a thread was opened on this.

Seriously, spingears since you are new, why not lurk a bit and get a feel of how forums work and who is who around here? It might prove helpful to you and save you from feeling like you apparently do.

Welcome to the SDMB. May your time here be happy.

As for typos, I think you generally find that mention is usually only made of them when they change the actual meaning of a post, usually for humorous effect. Occasionally a correction is made with the intent of educating the poster but these usually are meant to be helpful.

Sure a web search can answer some questions but here a questioner often is asking for personal observations as well.

Questions that are too general? Maybe they’ll learn. Maybe they were intentionally vague to insure a variety of responses.

Responses that don’t answer all parts ot the question? Well, little by little we can go far. We might not know it all but that shouldn’t keep us from contributing.

Answers are posted which have little or no relevance to the topic? Yeah but only if the dog had eaten it first.

I still think Anna Kournikova is hot…

Blue ice cream has NO fuckin’ bones.

Boning Anna Dournikova while eating blue ice cream while it’s hot outside.

Cite?

Now that thread is HILARIOUS.

Spingears, you might want to add number 7 to your list of problems with the SDMB:

  1. Some people don’t bother to read the Board rules, and consequently end up posting lame OPs in inappropriate forums. When they are called on this, they then start a thread complaining about everyone else.

Maybe I’m amazed at the way you love me all the time.

I’m amazed that some people still don’t think descriptive thread titles are a good idea.

Another esteemed member of the offenderati speaks out.

“I’m mad at you!”

“Why’s that?”

“You should know!”

Only in this case the OP isn’t addressing it specifically to whoever he has a beef with. He’s assuming the entire roster of the SDMB is collectively aware that one of their own pissed in his cornflakes somehow, and he’s hoping they will shame themselves into tearfully confessing their crime without knowing what it is.

Baby, I’m amazed by you…

Great…now that song is stuck in my head and I don’t even LIKE it

OK
I’ll just relax and enjoy.

You’re Amazin Walter?
