America is a core part of the world economy, at the very least it collapsing would cause something on the order of the Great Depression. And that’s assuming that the collapse is peaceful for everyone outside the border, rather than the much more likely scenario of it involving a transition to fascism and genocidal wars.
As a general rule of thumb, rapid change hurts people. People adapt to slow change. They build canals in Venice, or move from droughty areas to more fertile areas, or train for a job in a new field, and not the one their father was in. But rapid change washes away buildings, people suffer famine, and older people are left without jobs and unemployable.
I’m pretty sure a rapid collapse of the US will hurt a lot of people, both within and outside the US.
It’ll be a a boot stomping on a human face—forever.
I mean that’s literally the position of Vance mentor and libertarian billionaire Trump backer Peter Theil.
The only difference is at least he is honest enough to admit he doesn’t give a crap about all the poor people inside and outside the US who are going to die in the process, because he thinks he’s going to come out on top (you are both probably wrong about that, but at least he’s honest about not caring about anyone else)
Same, and y’all know I’m not the biggest USA stan on these boards. If the USA disintegrates, it’ll be bad for everyone. And everyone’s kids. And their grandkids. Might be good for their great grandkids. If there are any.
I said that the collapse of America might be for the best for the rest of the world that is the part that you can’t seem to get your head around, either intentionally, or because you’re so triggered you can’t think straight.
You’re acting like a child.
Member of the rest of the world checking in to say: “Naah!”.
I don’t see how having multiple (possibly nuclear-armed) states in North America, some of which will be run by fascist racists, is good for the rest of us. Never mind “best”.
Or did you mean something else by “collapse”?
The collapse of the largest military/economic force the world has ever known would be so chaotic and destabilizing that no one could possibly predict the outcome, let alone some random internet gadfly. I’ll agree that the US is a force for evil, if you want, but it is also holding a large part of the human world together. Billions of people would be affected, not just the US population. You really want that, eh?
So my interpretation is right?
Yeah, i think you are wrong. I think the rapid collapse of the US will hurt a whole lot of people, both within and outside the US. And i think only a few successful warlords (mostly within the US) will benefit.
Full agreement from the great white north.
I also wonder the extent to which the EU has done, or is doing, preps for this kind of thing. If there isn’t a superpower or superpower-like thing that’s clearly on our side, then we’re all toast for several generations. Or does @madmonk28 not understand that?
Another voice to confirm that the rest of the world likes their partners sane and well.
A “collapse” of the US cannot be good news for anyone in the (aspiring) free world. In fact many of the pillars the “free” world is built (NATO/UN/human rights as a concept/international climate agreements) on will likely not survive another MAGA administration.
“I’m not saying I am for it-I am saying, without any evidence or even any reason, that it’ll be shitoads better!”
Will someone explain to me where the contradiction isn’t. Even better, someone explain to me why @madmonk28 working for the Democrats is a good thing.
Oh come on now, you’re just, “triggered.”
It seems in this case, “triggered,” means logical answers aren’t owed. No one is allowed to have any emotional response to a ridiculous assertion, because it means they are, “triggered.” All a person in this circumstane is owed is dismisive juvinilazation.
The end of the civilized world? Piffle, why are you so triggered by such a notion? The world will fall into disaray if the biggest, richest, most heavily armed country in the world goes up in civil war, and fascist flames? How egocentric of all of you. You just think the US will last forever.
I think I may roll my eyes so hard they’ll get stuck looking at the bac of my head.
Being dismissve, and refusing to answer valid questions doesn’t speak well of anyone.
If America falls, the world will fall into chaos. China will go after Taiwan, I believe they even made a statement just a day or so ago about how Taiwan belongs to China. Putin will quickly take over Ukraine and head for Poland next.
It really would be awful, in my opinion.
It’ll be a boot stomping on a human face—forever.
I’m posting again what I said in my initial comment. I don’t have time or interest to respond to all the triggered people. Here is what I believe:
- America might well be irredeemable and if that is true, it might be best for the world for it to collapse quickly.
- A Trump administration might bring about that collapse.
Please note my use of the word might.
Also please note the following:
I am not taking any action to bring about that collapse. I’m not voting for Trump, or planning to blow up the Hoover dam.
I am just saying that there might be a silver lining for the rest of the world, in a Trump victory. That doesn’t mean that collapse it would be good for Americans. I’m saying collapse might be good for humanity, of which, America is a subset.
Yes, we get that. And all available information indicates that a Trump victory and potential collapse of America would not be good for the rest of the world or humanity. At all.
We’re not triggered. You’re just spectacularly wrong.
Wonder what ‘being triggered’ is coming to mean, when it’s now some kind of insult.
Here I was thinking it was about being reminded of past trauma. So out of step.
Our trip out-of-country, which had been off the table, is back on the table! I think it will help me get through election day itself, not so sure about the aftermath.
