Congratulations! There’s a lot to be said for friendship & companionship as the basis for a good relationship.

(BTW, I have an aunt & uncle named Paul and Kathy. I’ve always admired their marriage - they laugh together a lot. They celebrated their 50th anniversary not long ago.)

Paul, sweetie, I’m delighted you’ve found someone to be happy with and ecstatic that the other relationship is finally over.

But, if I may inject a note of caution, I would like to suggest that you might hold off on marriage for a little while. You’ve just come out of a spectacularly long and spectacularly bad relationship, you and Kathy have both changed in the past thirty-odd years, and you’ve only been back in contact with her for a few months.

Let yourself settle a little, so that you can approach marriage from a stronger place. If she’s the one, she’ll still be there for you.

I just got married (for the second time) … at age 60. Was married for 17 years, from 20 through 37; divorced for 23 years …

You’re right about it being totally “different” at this age. For me – I was totally cautious, and perhaps still am. How could anyone treat ME so right?
