I am having a minor crisis today.

Today is my daughter’s 12th birthday.

My birthdays come and go, and don’t bother me. My daughter has birthdays, and I feel old.

But, Happy Birthday Alyssa!

Happy Birthday Alyssa! 12 years old!! Ah, yes I remember it well. I hope you have a wonderful birthday.

And Happy BIRTHday to KimKatt. Hug that girl. Before you know it, she’ll be a teenager. ACK!! Not to mention dating. Well, maybe I shouldn’t be mentioning that part right now.

Tell me about it. My son is going to be a year old tomorrow, according to the calendar. No freaking way!

Happy birthday Alyssa and mom. Enjoy your youth!

Dating? DATING? Not a chance.

KimKatt–where are you going with that Chastity belt??

Tell her to have a happy day Kim Kat…my oldest son turned 12 last month.

What an attitude…sheesh

See this is where I benefit from being in my mid-twenties with the mind and maturity of a 12 year old …

Actually to be fair that is arguable.

I’d be more likely to go for me acting like I am 6 or 7 years old.

But I have a young cousin who I have known since the day she is born about to celebrate her 18th. That made me feel old for the first time.

The only thing I can say is although you can’t live your life through your daughter … see her youth through her eyes

pLt–if it makes you feel any better, I can relate.

After not going to family get togethers for a period of time (probably about a five year period where I’d attend one out of every five), I went to one and later remarked to my parents, “Who’s Ronnie’s girlfriend?” (Ronnie is my cousin, and one year younger than me–33 years old)

They had no idea who I was talking about. After eliminating the “possible suspects”, we concluded that his “girlfriend” was MY 16 YEAR OLD COUSIN MARIE.

No, of course they weren’t engaging in physical contact, or anything like that. I JUST DIDN’T RECOGNIZE MY OWN COUSIN, who my vague mental image of, was that of an 8 year old. (I guess I wasn’t paying a lot of attention to her at the family get togethers I HAD been to.)

At that moment, I felt incredibly old. Also stupid. :frowning:
(I did think “this woman’s awfully young for Ronnie”. Liked that helped me feel less embarrassed.

I remember the day my parents brought my little brother home from the hospital. I said, “Ohhhh, he’s got a pig shaped nose!” I got in trouble and was sent me to my room.

When he was around 4, I dared him to kiss my aunt’s chihuahua and it bit him on the lip. I got in trouble and was sent to my room.

When he was 6, I bought him a stuffed animal for Christmas. He slept with that puppy everyday.

When he was 10, I moved away from home. He packed me two bags of groceries from the pantry because he didn’t want me to go hungry.

I felt okay with my age until he got married. That’s when I really felt old. Now they’re living in Italy and I miss him so much. At least he has his very patched-up and old puppy with him.

And if that doesn’t make me feel old enough, one of my nephews and his girlfriend are going to have a baby. I visited my sister at the hospital when she had my nephew. He can’t be old enough to have one of his own. I have to remind myself that he’s 21. ::sniff::

Skirmie just turned 7.

I am old.

Oh don’t… your making me feel faintly old and I’m only 17! sniffles My little brother (who is actually not so little he’s more like my size and I’m big for a girl) is in Cadets and this summer will be away at camp with them… He’ll be 14 this summer!

Dry smiles Thats funny but I know how that is like. I have relatives and such that I see yearly at Christmas at the family get together… I almost never remember who is who… and on Mom’s side I haven’t seen most of my cousins in ages (I’m the oldest of them all) last time I saw Kenzie she was just a newborn and last time they sent pictures she was walking and stuff! Then when some relatives came out here to visit I nearly didn’t recognize Alex who last I had seen when he was a newborn as well. Now he’s 5! He didn’t remember me of course…

Then you know those toys that seem to be around for ages only come out with new features? Awhile ago I was playing with K’nex with my cousins and I was thinking… ‘Damn… I didn’t have this stuff in MY K’nex’ it was just the weirdest feeling…

We’ve survived birthday number 12, with my psyche intact

Thank you all for all of the birthday wishes!

So next year Alyssa becomes a teenager!

We had a family gathering yesterday. One of my cousins had the audacity to insist that he was going to be 21 on his next birthday. I, of course, being older and knowing more, told him that if he thought he was going to be 21 on his next birthday, he really ought to sue the school he graduated from, because he obviously can’t do math. He’s going to be six.

So there. Nyah. :stuck_out_tongue:

What’s this weird fetish with dogs? :stuck_out_tongue:

Seriously, though, it seems a bit harsh to punish you for a rather harmless comment about a newborn (“pig shaped nose”-BFD)

TopezAntares–The pathetic part is that most of us all live in the same city, so we got together more frequently than once a year. Also, there HAD to have been some get togethers where I DID go and see my young cousin–I guess I just wasn’t paying attention while she aged 8 years “right out from under me”. Funny, I DID recognize some of the younger cousins…

Ack! I’ve had a couple of those “Oh, my God, I’m OLD” moments. My step-siblings were 4, 5 and 7 and I was 20 when Mom married their Dad. Now one of them has a baby of her own, the boy is in the Air Force in Alaska, and the youngest just graduated high-school. Of course, the first time I felt old was when the boy who was my neighbor when I was a kid graduated high school. When he was a baby and I was 10 years older than him, he learned to walk holding onto my fingers!
