Zenster, thanks for quoting that post- I remember him now.
Gah. Buh-bye.
Zenster, thanks for quoting that post- I remember him now.
Gah. Buh-bye.
Only one song comes to mind…
memories - light the corners of my mind. Misty water color memories, of the way we were…
Unlike so many of the fundamentalist Christians who post here, at least Nomadic_One wasn’t rude.
Actually, J.D., what Polycarp believes is between him and God. What Nomadic_One posts here is for everyone or anybody to comment on as they see fit. I think Nomadic_One probably meant well. But we don’t need to be managed by you. Feel free to try.
Nomadic_One, I wish that you had loved us enough to get to know us.
Goodbye, Nomadic_One. It is good that you are not letting this board get in the way of what God wants you to do.
May God, if there be a god, bless you, if there be blessings.
[further hijack] Thanks for the props. I love that song and it jumped immediately to mind while I was reading this thread. I just couldn’t resist the temptation.
So far as the meaning of the song goes, I’ve never thought it to be about Jesus. Christ never “ranted and pointed his finger at everything but his heart” so far as I know (I’m an atheist and only know the very basics of Christian literature, I might be wrong) and he is seen as divine by a very large proportion of the Earth’s population, so that’s two lines in the song that would seem to rule him out as the inspiration.
Also, listening to Aenima’s lyrics, it wouldn’t surprise me if it were about Hubbard considering the “Fuck L. Ron Hubbard and fuck all his clones” line. [/fh]
To quote my brother, who has been reading over my shoulder;
“Dude… that’s because SD is about fighting ignorance, not embracing it, duh!”
Go with God.
I don’t know what you could have realistically expected here, though. Did you think you could really do a lot of convincing on subjects like religion with people you’ve never even met, and aren’t in any kind of actual relationship with?
I personally have never seen anyone argued into something like spiritual views. We’ve had furious arguments here about things like whether an average person could become a major league hitter in one year of hard work, and even then I was amazed when the OP was finally convinced that it wasn’t possible and admitted it.
Given the difficulties with something stupid like that, what could you expect?
And…
This is another Christian talking. Remember that being a loudmouth does not prove that you’re right, that you love God, or that you’re anything much more than rude or inexperienced. I don’t know that you are these things, but I noticed a name there that you complimented…
Marvin Gaye did a song, “Can I Get a Witness?”
Good luck, Nomadic_One. FWIW, I think you meant well.
Just curious, but why not? Isn’t it strong enough to withstand the slings and arrows of outrageous ridicule from an internet message board? Perhaps you are not familiar with Romans 8, v 31-39:
Read those last two verses again. Do we here at the SDMB hove powers beyond “anything else in all creation” to seperate you from your faith?
I would hope that some of the “open-minded” folks here on the SDMB would also remember that the Christian folks who are witnessing are following Christ’s “great commission.” He said to “go forth and preach the gospel to every creature.” Unfortunately, a lot of Christians tend to forget the second part where he tells them to shake the dust off their feet in towns where they won’t be heard - basically not to waste their time if they won’t be heard the first time.
May I make an aside observation here? A lot of folks who claim to be “enlightened” on this board will read Neitzche or whatever else, but won’t take time to read Mark, Luke or John, or anything by Paul, and will then still make judgements. That’s not exactly intellectually honest, is it? (I expect to be thoroughly blasted now.)
Blasted? No. But firmly told you’re wrong. Most of the atheists on the board who regularly debate with the theists know scripture as well as, and in many cases better than, the likes of Nomadic_One, His4Ever and the Jersey Twins.
Take care Nomadic_One. I’d like to echo Diogenes the Cynic in saying I think you meant well, but obviously this didn’t go as well as you had hoped.
Let me clarify, Homebrew, I said “a lot” not “all” or “most”…I realize there are exceptions, or else I would have used “all,” etc…
Polycarp, for instance, is an exception on the other side of the fence - well-read and well-rounded. I am referring to the single-minded athiests, agnostics, pagans, etc. who haven’t bothered. I find those folks to be as unpleasant as the single-minded witnessers.
How does one listen with a voice, anyways? Shouldn’t he have said, listen TO a small voice?
Let’s see if it works:
[sub]Esprix…you will give me your credit card numbers…listen to me…[/sub]
sits back and waits
I don’t think you can even find “a lot” of the non-theist posters who fit your description. “A few,” perhaps, but not many or “a lot.”
What??? One of THESE?? Gah! I left the icky My Little Pony message board to AVOID stuff like this!! Well, at least I haven’t encountered any of the other nuisances. Such as gestapo-moderation and 100 threads about Harry Potter and complete lack of any ability to spell. And scammers, but I didn’t think there was much threat here.
Goes to show these things can happen anywhere.
{reaches for wallet}
What? Who said that?
Esprix
Who had less than two weeks?
Maybe he’s not really back, though. Maybe he’s retroactively witnessing by changing his .sig
(His link doesn’t work for me so I can’t say for sure, of course)
