I was just looking through who registered around the same time I did, May 1999. Very few are still around (hi voguevixen!); most only posted a time or two or not at all. Some had a couple hundred posts and then vanished in the ether around 2000.

Yep. That’s when we went from UBB to vBulletin. Much did NOT transfer over.
It’s “Clemens.” And he, Mark Twain, ascribed it incorrectly to Disraeli. We actually don’t know just “who” invented it, we just know who didn’t.
