The longer an internet forum discussion goes on, the percentage chance of a mention of Joseph McCarthy approaches 100.
With all the really bad people you could compare taggert too, you picked someone who was right about the whole federal government being penetrated by communist agents, but was too stupid to find any of them. Is that what you meant?
Many people have identical opinions to me, which we all know is proof positive that I cannot be a satirist. The PEDERA (and that old joke) is well known and logical, hence your contrast to Esprix, who has a PEDERA of 45, and is our Babe Ruth. I can only assume that your paranoia is a sign that you’ve accepted my invitation to ‘get crunked’, or are currently working with hemp. As you pointed out, you already be a libertarian, please check your neighbors bedroom.
Or perhaps no one has called for my banning because my satire is nonexistent or obvious. I could argue for both, but the point is, your satirical detector is clearly malfunctioning – this would account for your oblivousness to your satirical elements and your noticing it where it is not. I chalk this up to another manifestation of Conservative Projection Theory, which is like where Ann Coulter calls other people lying, biased, harpies.
This is where we came in, so I will exeunt before it becomes some sort of parodical, circular, existentialist French play that I feel like I’ve read before.
This is a Monty Python reference, right? It’s a reference to something, I know, and it rings faint bells for something with British accents and smuggling, but I’m not sure. It’s been bugging me all morning.
No. McCarthy was correct that every cabinet level department had been penetrated by Communist agents. In hindsight, we know this now.
I think his subpoena(is) got stuck in the wrong places. He was a moron. He did not catch any actual Communist spies and violated some innocent folks’ Constitutional rights.
I am basically sick of everyone comparing everyone to Joe McCarthy. Pol Pot, meanwhile, gets a free ride. I think taggert is like Pol Pot – just as topical and accurate as comparing him to McCarthy.
Joe McCarthy was a national hero and while I am not offended at being compared to Joe “Tailgunner” McCarthy, I am not really worthy of the accolade, much like the earlier comparison to George W. Bush. Flattered yes, worthy, no. I am not like Pol Pot, who was a communist genocidal maniac. I am not a communist and I am not genocidal. Duh.
Joseph Welch. Lawyer and Anatomy of a murder actor, n’cest pas? But now you seem to be committing the cardinal sin of SDMB, namely sarcasm. It looks to me like you are lampooning me? The weariness of such a routine is going to get the entire clique after you. Minty Green and one of the moderators will look up all your nine thousand seven hundred and fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen… posts and post every slight contradiction you have made. The drum will beat. People will mock you by pretending to think you are being funny, but really, they are trying to get you to “break character” and become, well, someone else. Someone who will say what they want, not have ideas of your own, someone who thinks that Ann Coulter is not an angle from on high, a heroine (with the e this time) for our age. At long last, Guinastasia, have you no sense of direction? Of where this will lead? The next thing you know, Cecil Adams will stop being so serious, and will do an April Fool’s column, which some kid will try at home and get himself badly hurt. We are here to fight ignorance, not yank on each other’s hair. A lot of serious conservatives believe that Joe McCarthy got a raw deal. After all, it was true that Mr. Welch’s young associate had communist ties from when he was in college. Communism is about to sweep this nation, and it is the fault of tolerant liberals. Liberals who do not understand that we have the liberty to shun communism so that we may shun it. There are some countries where shunning communism is not allowed. Like Cuba. They are not free countries, but suffer under the boot of dictatorship. America is free to shun communism, and even liberalism. We must restore God’s protective umbrella over America and exercise our freedom to shun inferior political philosophies, the indiscriminate nabobs of toleration have no place in a country that allows people the freedom to choose right.
Look at our marvellous GOP leaders and their unwaivering committment to their beliefs. It is their actions that show them to be heroes to those who need heroes, to stand up for the right to employ others to do the difficult delegating.
Okey dokey. Here is a cite to a site memorializing Sen. McCarthy and Congressman Schmitz, both heros. Althougth the site is anti-Schmitz, it does document that a real United States Congressman regarded Senator Joseph McCarthy as his personal hero.
Not trolling. Not going to do it. Won’t go there. Dead serious. If this were a film, the genre would not be comedy. Parody, I am told, is a violation of the rules, and I refuse to violate the rules. Moreover, satire and parody are for people who cannot make a real agument with premises and conclusions.
Taggert, I beg of you to stop the lunacy. But I know that you probably won’t. Question authority, maybe our fearless leader isn’t the demigod that you make him out to be.
