I am pitting the New York State and Local Retirement System

I have a simple request. I need a form.

I go to their website. The pop-up tells me I can’t access the website. So I should call their phone number.

I call their phone number. The recorded message tells me they’re busy and can’t take my call. So I should go to their website.

I have been going back and forth like this for two days.

I have sent an email. The email entry form says it might take two weeks for a response.

I suppose my next step is to go to their regional office. It could be worse; the closest office is only a half hour drive away.

I hope I don’t end up having to drive to Albany.

I feel your pain. I’ve experienced similar with the Wisconsin system.

But like crucifixion, at least it gets us out in the open air.

It’s easy to look backward, and trace the steps that led to a Luigi Mangione’s last acts (“all the signs were there”).

It’s infinitely harder to look forward, from somebody’s entirely reasonable sense of frustration, outrage, and indignation at this kind of bureaucratic bullshit and figure out where they’ll end up

The OP may find the solace of company in this post from the shiny new April mini-rants thread:

“When you’re chewing on life’s gristle, don’t grumble. Give a whistle!”

What more evidence do you need to see that the New York State and Local Retirement System bureaucracy does not work? We should close it down and give you the freedom to deal with your retirement totally on your own!
