I am so fucking sick of snow, I cannot stand it! I know the board no longer shows locations, so for those of you who don’t know, I’ll tell you that I’m in western Maryland. We usually get more extreme weather than the Baltimore area. On about the 23rd of January, we got a snow storm, followed by another snow storm the next day, that kept the kids out of school Monday thru Thursday. Yesterday, the weather folks were calling for freezing rain followed by snow. One-quarter to one-half inch of ice, followed by 3-6 inches of snow. This, according to weather.com. Well, by the time we got up this morning, there was already 6" on the ground, and showing no signs of stopping. Weather.com has now updated their site to say that our area may get as much as 10". Well, guess fuckin’ what? There’s already a foot of new snow on the ground, and again, no sign of it stopping. I am just sick to death of snow!! I’m so sick of snow, I can’t think of better invectives to use! Can someone come help me out with some bad language here, please?
Jeff Olsen, I am certainly no fan of winter rain, but I’d rather have it than snow, because rain doesn’t get stuff canceled. My 12-year-old daughter takes dance classes on Tuesday nights. She didn’t last week, or this week either, because of the snow; I pay for her dance classes by the month; this means that for two weeks now, I’m paying for her to not take dance classes. My 16-year-old daughter has one-on-one counseling and group counseling on Tuesdays. But not last week, or this week either, because of the snow. Fortunately, her insurance covers counseling, and her insurance isn’t charged when the sessions are cancelled; but she’s bipolar, and no counseling means no help.
You forgot to mention how cold it is too. I was up there at Deep Creek this past weekend and it was -5 with a wind-chill of cold as fuck. The snow was so deep my dog couldn’t find anyplace to poop which was getting him pretty agitated. Poor guy. :o
We did go skiing and managed to do an entire 2 runs before we couldn’t feel our extremities anymore. That was an expensive lift ticket.
kiger, actually, it’s above freezing today, for the first time in about 3 weeks! Has been a cold bastard out, though! Thank God for electric blankets!
Actually, what’s been known to happen here in the past is that the snow will keep schools closed for a couple of days, then it’ll warm up quite suddenly, and schools will be closed for a couple more days because of flooding
You’re not alone in your mistery, norinew. Here in Omaha we have record amounts of snow on the ground, courtesy of a storm last week that dumped over 13" of snow which was followed by a week of subzero weather preventing the stuff from melting and then a second storm this past weekend which dumped another 10". It’s the powdery stuff, too, which blows everywhere and creates enormous drifts. Half the people in my workplace now have roof leaks caused by ice dams. And what is the weather forecast for tomorrow? Yep, MORE snow!
I think everyone’s going to be happy to see this winter end!
You’re in Cumberland, right, norinew?
I’m in Baltimore, and they closed schools today for the impending storm. Know what it’s been like here today? Rain all freaking day and temps of 40°. That’s right, and the schools were closed for rain. :smack:
I’m with you lot, although a bit further west. This morning, there was a lovely “wintery mix” of rain, sleet, ice, and eventual snow, so I decided I was better off taking the bus to work than driving (the bus takes about 3 times as long). When I found myself sliding on a sheet of ice through the parking lot, I could just picture calling my boss and saying, “I decided it was safer to walk than drive, so I’m now home with a twisted ankle.” I wouldn’t have told him not to laugh; it’d be impossible for him not to. Since it was only raining at the time, I decided to wear sneakers, not boots. Unfortunately, the footing was safer walking through 6 inch deep snow. There was also the matter of an ankle-deep lake of slush between the bus stop at the other end and the office. Around the time my feet finally showed signs of drying out, it was time to repeat the process by going home.
I am now sitting in front of my computer, with my feet finally warm and drying off after a hot bath, trying to remind myself that it’s now February, so this can’t go on forever. On the other hand, there’s something to be said to for paying a visit to a certain shadow-seeing rodent up by Steelerphan and having, shall we say, a “discussion” about the six more weeks of winter he predicted!
A-a-argh! (And shiver!) Anyone for a virtual cup of hot chocolate?
BiblioCat, yes, that’s right, Cumberland. When we first moved here, I was amazed at how much more snow we get than Baltimore. It’s usually 5-10 degrees colder here, and that can make all the difference; plus, we have all those things that pass for mountains on this side of the country, fucking stuff up.
Siege, so sorry to hear about your ankle. You’re right; ice is much worse than snow! Here, we got about 1/2 inch of ice (right on top of last weeks’ snow, which hasn’t had a chance to melt), topped by another foot of snow.
philster, I hear ya about the gas bill, buddy; that’s why after last winter, we had ours put on the budget plan. With that, the bill is the same every month, and if they over-or-under estimate, it’s all settled on the last bill of the year. As a result, last year, our final gas bill was under $4.00!
