I am ready to take this chick outside and beat her down as I type this

I am a little confused - what schedule do they have you on? Vandy doesn’t do a night program so I have no idea how it would run. Is it 12 months? Do you guys do a summer internship? How many years?

I think the last two years would have done me in had I been doing a proper job as well. At least schedules are looking good for this year - until Xmas I have noo classes after 12 noon.

This is kind of funny, because I was in a similar situation today- I was at the library and there was this woman yakking on the phone very loudly in Chinese. Apparently she didn’t speak english, and apparently ‘shh’ is NOT a universal gesture for silence

The upside about it is that I plan on making a tape that has the recording of “SHUT THE FUCK UP!” in Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Japanese, Tagalog, Hindi, Ursi, Arabic, and French.

It’s a part time night program, tailored for those who work full time, such as myself. It’s four years. I’m in finals now because I started in January so I had mandatory summer session for the second half of my first year. So with any luck, i’ll be a second year in a couple weeks fingers crossed

I’d be your first customer.

A STORY.

Ahhh. Shushing talkers in the library. My study group occassionally had that problem. Whenever things got rough for us, Shira would call her boyfriend ‘Killa’ – 6’ foot 10" center. Reknown campus badass. Archetype of the strong, silent alpha male. In a better world, he should have enjoyed the kind of success that would make you doubt I actually knew him. In real life he died when he went to retrieve his keys that slipped from his fingers and fell between the threshold of the closing doors into the elevator shaft… he was a little drunk… he was rooting for them in the dark when the half-ton counterweight crushed him … same thing that took out the ‘Terminator’. Whole campus stopped dead to mourn him the next morning. Anyway, Killa could distill that whole SHUT THE FUCK UP! message in one word… whispered, and lock on a fixed stare that promised genital mutilation, uncensured bitch-slapping and jamming his fingers up your nose and leading you around like a collie.

A PLAY. Based on a true story.
‘KILLA’ CLEARS OUT THE TALKING FOOLS

Killa walks in. Footsteps echo before he is actually seen.

Killa walks up to our table. We can be heard bitterly complaining and pointing at the offenders. Offenders are too stupid to leave.

Killa nods, raises up in that magic way he has that adds two inches and 40 pounds to his frame. Walks over to the offenders, hands them their bags. Points long arm toward exit.

KILLA (whispers)… Now.

Goes smacking the slow-movers on the backs of their heads as he escorts them out. We are all laughing uproariously. Head librarian watches and says not one word.

Well you have my respect. I decided to jump in and live off loans for three years. If you need any outlines etc give me a shout and I may have something of value.

Thanks, I appreciate that. It’s not easy, about a 1/4 of all 1L’s drop out before the end of first year because they can’t hang. The other 1/4 flunk out. Our class of 25 or so in the beginning of the year is now down to 18, with 2 confirmed “non-returns” next year (they’re just finishing up first year, even though they’re not coming back).

It’s pretty intimidating. Good thing I’m one hell of a stubborn mo’ fo, and worked full time throughout my entire undergrad. So working my way through school isn’t exactly new territory for me.

We don’t really have a choice about the working thing. This school doesn’t even take federal financial aid since there’s no full-time professors, they’re all working attorneys and judges. That part royally blows. You have to get what you can in private loans and start praying for the rest. At least that’s been my MO thus far.

I was a spoiled Englishman and got away without paying for undergrad. Of course, like an idiot when many moons later I decide to go back to education, I pick one of the more expensive establishments. Still, at least there is light at the end of the tunnel. One more year to go, and a job offer already received.

That strikes me as an ungodly high dropout rate. I bet they don’t stress that in the recruiting materials.

Damn it. Really didn’t mean to quote in full then. Sorry.

Nope. They do, however, stress the unbelievably high first time bar pass rate, which at last pass was 75%. Second highest in California, passing even the ivy league schools.

That’s got to count for something, huh? If you get below a 70% cumulative any year, they kick you out. So, that probably helps their pass rate.

Had my first final, Criminal Law, tonight. Didn’t ace it or anything, but I’m fairly confident I passed, at least.

Here’s to hoping!

Criminal Law was fun… The exam was way too long for the time. Each year the professor sets a fact pattern based on a movie; our years was Go. 8 different potential criminals, 7 different felonies they each could have commited, so 56 possible crimes to discuss. And that question was only 1 1/2 hours.

Anyway, it inspired me to do optional criminal courses. I just finished Criminal Practice & Procedure, and am doing Criminal Constitutional Law this semester. I think without the choices I would have gone crazy. And it looks like I might get a chance to do criminal defense work at some stage for real.

Best of luck with the rest.

Look on the bright side. At least you’re not trying to get a math degree or anything. :stuck_out_tongue:

Really, best of luck to you, lezlers. I would have loved law school so about a 1/4 of me envies you.

Cinnamon,

Notice I used the word “about” in front of my rough estimates. That’s usually an indication it’s not going to be a precise number.

Fuckin’ nitpickers.

Also, in case your powers of observation have escaped you, I mentioned another 1/4 flunk out, and most of this thread has been about the fact that we’re currently in finals. Which means, as of yet, we don’t know how many, if any of us will flunk out.

A fourth of 25 rounded to off is 6. There’s 18 of us left from the 25 odd at the beginning of the year. That would be 19. Two confirmed non-returners. That would be 17 after finals. That’s approximately a 1/4. We’ll see how many pass their finals. If it’s another 6 or so, that would be another 1/4. That would suck, but my estimate would be correct. If most or all of us make it, my estimate would be wrong, thank god. But it would have nothing to do with my math skills.

[sub]Please note, this post was made pre-coffee and after my first final. I’m just a bit tired, stressed and bitchy and not in the mood for completely random, off-point nitpicks[/sub]

Sheesh. I may need to get a new sense of humor because mine appears to be broke.

FTR, I was teasing ya, lezlers. I thought maybe a little “silly you” might lighten your mood. Silly me. I was way off on that one! :smack:

Don’t ask me why, but what immediately popped out when I read that post was that 2 quarters seem to have made a whole, which was divided into “about” and “the other.” And further that 1/2 of 25 was 16. I just thought it was funny and totally indicative of what the combination of stress, lack of sleep, too much coffee and brain-in-overdrive will do to a presumably intelligent human being. Was it just me?

I may not be that funny and I can understand you’re tired and bitchy (I would be too), but if you get the urge to take anyone out back, please let it be her! Please. Not me! I’m a pacifist!

Yeah, sorry about that Cinnamon. I got out of the shower, re-read it and thought “jesus, lezlers, what did you tell yourself about posting before you’re coherant??”

I way overreacted, my apologies.

Foam earplugs will do the trick. I also like “SHUT THE FUCK UP.”

Think nothing of it. I just thought I was broke.
