I am SERIOUSLY WORRIED that these riots are going to get Trump re-elected

Do you want me to go through the democratic platform and highlight line by line areas where it will improve the treatment of the impoverished and the marginalized in the country?

I really don’t want to go to that level of effort, and I can’t believe that that is what you are asking, as it is something that you could do just as easily yourself.

There are no guarantees, and not everyone will be happy, and it will take time for reform. That’s what democracy is. Unfortunately, for all its flaws, everything else tends to be far worse.

The other option is to use enough force to get people to stop complaining about the use of force. That is a simpler solution, but I do argue that it is a terrible one.

They didn’t back then, why would they now?

To clarify what I mean:

While there’s this whitewashed myth that Martin Luther King was well-liked for being so peaceful and good, the fact is that 75% of the country disapproved of him in the year that he was murdered. The famous FBI letter (quoted below) below sums up how the government (in this case specifically the FBI) felt towards him, and makes it clear that they actively wanted to encourage him to commit suicide. The Chicago Tribune, when discussing the peaceful protests you said taht people would approve of stated in 1966 “Families ordinarily would be enjoying the chance to sit on the front porch reading the paper, to sprinkle their lawns and work in their gardens, or to go to the park or beach. Instead, they are confronted by a shuffling procession of strangers carrying signs and posing as martyrs. The spectacle is repulsive to right-thinking people.”

So I really doubt that ‘MLKJ type protests’ would get the general approval you’re looking for. Plus, of course, most of the violence is coming from outside agitators or is instigated by police, but people looking to complain about ‘riots’ tend to ignore that.

I appreciate this, but what is the quote from?

Took me 5 seconds on google to find it. I imagine it can be found lots of places on the interwebs.

The Trump campaign is being pretty open with the fact that they want chaos and violence. I think it will be pretty easy to demonstrate this with quotes from Trump and Trump campaign officials.

No, I associate Trump with supporting racism and laws being broken.

Well, we elected Trump and the riots started. So a change can’t make things worse.

Who really believes that? If you own a business or a home in one of these poorly governed blue cities will you rebuild to be looted or burned down again? Why? People complain about food deserts. You know why there are food deserts? It’s because the cost of doing business is too damn high. You don’t think the cost of doing business when the business is looted by mobs of criminals that are rarely charged or imprisoned is higher than doing business in areas where civilized people don’t do that? What do you think the tax base of a municipality is when those paying the taxes are demonized and victimized while the police stand around with thumbs up their butts? Who is going to produce the wealth to redistribute?

Seriously, when Trump is re-elected hopefully it won’t be a mystery this time.

Were there race riots in 2015?

An anonymous letter later shown to be sent by the FBI to King.

Our Convention occurs at a moment of crisis for our nation. The attacks on our police, and the terrorism in our cities, threaten our very way of life. Any politician who does not grasp this danger is not fit to lead our country.

Americans watching this address tonight have seen the recent images of violence in our streets and the chaos in our communities. Many have witnessed this violence personally, some have been its victims.

I have a a message for all of you: the crime and violence that today afflicts our nation will soon come to an end. Beginning on January 20th 2017, safety will be restored.

The most basic duty of government is to defend the lives of its own citizens. Any government that fails to do so is a government unworthy to lead.

- Donald Trump, 7/21/2016

Why would anyone believe him this time around? Why do you, octopus?

Well, actually. Maybe this one time he is not lying…

If he is admitting that he will be defeated and concede, then this line could well be right on point.

ETA:nvm, read that wrong.

Still…

I don’t disagree with you 100%, but you’re missing some context.

Yes, I would agree that some blue cities are poorly governed, overtaken by democrat machines that are inexperienced and incompetent at governing. But historically, whites just don’t want to live next to blacks and don’t want their children in the same schools, mainly because whites know that they’ve deprived black school children of access to education, fair housing, and economic opportunities, and don’t want to invest in trying to reverse decades - centuries - of inequity for the purpose of greater parity. So they left, and they took their tax base with them.

It’a also worth noting that Democratic Mayors and City Councils have existed in these cities for years - in some cases, decades. And we haven’t seen rioting. So apparently Democratic city governments don’t cause riots.

The recent political change that caused the riots is Trump getting elected. And if Trump is re-elected, the rioting will get worse.

Right? It’s easy to read that wrong. That seems like it must be a current speech, but it was from four years ago.

“Attacks on our police,” “Terrorism in our cities,” and “Violence in our streets,” are all things he said he would put an end to. All of these things have gotten worse on his watch.

Well, he hasn’t brought out the magic sharpie yet.

That is…awesome? Would be interesting for Biden to read that at a debate. Do you have a good cite so I can share?

The part I quoted is paragraphs 3 - 6.

The title says it’s a draft. Did he use it?
