I Am the Cheese

I recently read I Am the Cheese by Robert Corimer. This book has left me with many mysteries. If anyone has read the book and understands it, please help me out.

Brint, the “doctor” who the heck is he? Is he working with the organizations against Adam’s (Paul’s) dad?

And who killed Adam’s or Paul’s family? Were they Gray’s guys, or what?

I have so many questions. It’s an awesome book, but it leaves me in mystery. Also, is there a sequel to the book. I know that Robert Corimer wrote a book called The Bumblebee Flies Anyway which is similar.

Please help,
Thanks–Matt

Obviously, no one has read the book.

Hey, I read it! …a long, long time ago, but I read it. Let’s see if I remember much…

Boy’s family is in a witness relocation program, boy’s father slowly goes insane from the paranoia of getting caught and executed by the mafia he ratted out, family wiped out in the end, chapters end with various “Farmer in the Dell” lyrics. Most notably: The cheese stands alone, the cheese stands alone…thus, the title of the book.

The “doctor,” I think, was someone working with the FBI who kept the family safe and in hiding. I didn’t remember the family being killed, but I have a vague memory of it. I’m pretty sure the mafia caught up with the family; however, there is also a vague inkling that the boy went nuts and took them out. (I remember the last line in the book as being “I am the cheese,” referring to standing alone.) Refresh my memory–was the boy killed? That would clear the “whodunit” in a hurry.

Good book, if I remember correctly. I read it about 10 years ago, when I was in high school. Wasn’t even required reading–I read it for “fun.”

Laura’s Stuff and Things

THe above post is pretty much on the money. The boy is being kept by either a) the government or b) the mafia. THey are keeping him drugged and trying to find out how much the boy knows.

He is reliving his life by riding his bike around the grounds of the place he is being held. They continually quesion him to see what he remembers. THe story as it is told by the boy, coincides with his bike ride around the grounds.

Teh father was in the witness protection program. The mysterious stranger who comes to their house is a member of the government. Their name was changed to Farmer as part of the program. That is why the father sings the song, “THe Farmer in the Dell.” The father and mother are killed and the boy taken away to the institution.

Excellent book.

Sorry, I would have thanked you earlier, but I kind of lost my internet priveliges.

So, the kid killed the mafia, or something? Who is the people who are keeping him though. Good guys or bad? What happened to his dad at the end? It talks about him escaping. Also, it says at the end about Gray being involved in the crash. Was he apart of the mafia all along?

Thanks
