This is the first I’ve heard about Fallon having a drinking problem… then again, I’m not tuned into celebrity gossip.
Well I’m not particularly tuned in either but the Fallon one somehow seeped into my brain and his fairly frequent drinking on the show solidified it, I guess.
Who wants people to think you get stumbling drunk and make a fool of yourself at a major function???
Uuuuh, everyone.
I am sure you are completely right when you ignore a warning sign. I, lacking super-powers and forced to err on the side of caution.
By accounts, Colbert is doing better personally than he has in years. He’s openly talked about the fact that he was working himself to death doing the Report and for the first year or so on CBS (when his show was struggling to find an audience). After that first year and an intervention from a producer, he learned to step back and delegate. He now focuses on his hosting and the show’s writing instead of trying to supervise every production detail.
Maybe when you notice how your brother in law displays warning signs at family gatherings but not when someone you have zero interaction with is doing a tv show.
Well, I’m organizing an intervention for Foster Brooks if anyone would like to join in.
ETA: dammit, we’re too late.
I watch regularly, and it appears that the Friday night episode is mostly pre-taped interviews, repeats of stuff from earlier in the week and field pieces. I think that was done to make things a little easier for Colbert.
This is what my son did to “fool” everyone, only it was Gatorade. Nobody in the family was fooled. I hope you aren’t still doing this.
See this post in the clip show thread. The only re-run material he does now that summer is over is The Best of Colbert (or whatever) at the end of the Friday show instead of some crappy band.
Wait, summer is over? Already? I thought it was just starting.
I don’t think I can even picture Colbert drunk. That’s sort of why it’s part of his schtick, I guess, it’s the incongruity that makes it funny.
Okay, right. Too much on a mental time delay.
It’s to fool security at a concert not to hide your drinking problem from your family. At least, istm that’s what kayaker is using it for.
Now I’m worried about you. I’m trying to figure out why you have so much invested in believing (and persuading us) that Colbert has a drinking problem. You’ve always struck me as a pretty level-headed poster, for the amount that I’ve paid attention.
Or am I being whooshed?
Has he been drunk on his show?
I’m reminded of the rule for writing: Show, don’t tell.
I always interpreted that Maya Angelou quote in a similar vein, where if someone tells you something about themselves, but then demonstrates something different with their behavior, believe what they showed you with their actions, not what they told you with their words.
Yep. Pittsburgh has some free summer concerts albeit with a huge police presence. We can drink under their noses with my hack.
I do not bother hiding my love for inebriation from my family. Why would I?
