This might be a simple question, but in one short look on the ICQ homepage I didn’t see my answer.
What exactly does it stand for? Anything? Is it an Acronym?

I hope you are joking!
I SEEK YOU.
Simple.
Well, if it really is that simple, I feel really dumb…
I’ll be in this hole over here.
Don’t worry about it Omni, seems a lot of people don’t get it.
When it first came out, some people I knew mentioned that they’d gotten it, and I made a comment about how cute that name was. Got a few blank looks for it.
Thus for the longest time, I figured it was a coincidence. ::Shrug::
Eschew Obfuscation
I know about the “I seek you” derivation, but is it related at all to the ham radio term “CQ”? Isn’t that what ham radio operators say when they’re trying to raise someone: “CQ … CQ … this is BR549, Podunk, Nebraska … CQ”?
If that is the case then ICQ could be considered the Internet CQ.
Just a thought.

I tried to search on Acronym Finder for CQ.
From the context in which you use it, it probably means “All stations (Logging abbreviation)”.
I would have posted the link to the page, but the URL was rather long and I didn’t want to stretch the margins of this thread.
