The sequential thread titles are always sort of a changing jab at whatever current flavor of the week/story there is that’s popular.
Another honest inquiry, for those outsite of the saccharin pop culture circle.

So in my mind the only real deliberately guilty party in this rant is the Prison Break one. The rest, as well as mine will fade into obscurity, like this fad surely will as well.

It’s not that I’ve ever seen anyone claim that the ‘irony is burning’ because they don’t have anything useful to say, but are comfortable with a catch phrase that is insulting, but too vague to get them pinned to a specific statement. I know you have too much class to do that.
We can only hope. But ‘all your base’ is not completely gone. Neither is ‘hi opal’… not by a long shot. Though I usually excuse ‘hi opal’ because it is at least unique to the dope.

On the one hand, this makes me go “meh, the lunatic cat people are at it again”, but on the other I try to put myself in the place of someone visiting the site for the first time. If I were new and saw all of these 'I can has" thread titles, I would assume I had found yet another community full of brainless glurge forwarders.

This may not be the place to explain. If you can’t step back, think for a minute, and work it out, it is probably going to take more than a post from me to convince you. It’s not a high caliber racial slur, to be sure, but it is a little bit off-putting. It’s never clear if the girl is being singled out because she is asian, in spite of being asian, or how her ethnicity figures into the mere fact that she’s cute. It’s the fact that so many westerners think in terms of option number one - to the point of fetish - that makes it more complex than, “hey, all I did was describe her.”

Hogwash. One of the defining characteristics of glurge is its complete lack of self-awareness. It’s simplistic and strongly emotive. It takes itself very seriously. It rarely attempts humor.
LOLcats (and many other Internet memes) are the opposite. They are extremely self-aware, often spawning numerous self-parodies and extensions. For example, a single “Monorail Cat” gives rise to variations such as “Monorail cat is offline for repairs” and even an animated gif of the infamous monorail cat in motion (with passengers). Often this self-parody quickly spirals into utter stupidity. Hence we get, “One does not simply TANKCAT into Mordor!!!1one”. But however retarded these things can sometimes get, the self-awareness, playfulness, and general game of variations on a theme set these sorts of memes miles apart from glurge.
Plus, some of them are damned funny.

A friend of a friend has a grown beige one. His fur wasn’t kept completely back from his face, so he squinted a bit. I swear it didn’t look like it has a face, it looked like it had a huge, fuzzy belly button on the end of its neck.

The people who think it’s just glurge aren’t paying attention to what’s actually going on with lolcats. Some of it is mindless glurge, some of it’s extremely sophisticated post-modern humor. Sometimes you can’t tell which it is. It’s like Jeff Koons for the masses.

QED mostly covered this. You have mistaken my difference of opinion, and my arguing on behalf of my own opinion, as a refusal to let others have an opinion. Quite the contrary; if you read the whole thread you’d have noted that I welcomed Ogre to his opinion so long as he tolerated me voicing mine. You got invited to FOBTM because you don’t seem to want to make an argument counter to my opinion, but rather would have me just shut up. That ain’t irony. Nor is it hypocrisy – at least not in the direction you assume.
