Something I’m noticing lately–those who laugh at lolcatz are becoming a lot harder to piss off than those who profess to be haters. I think there’s something in the lolcat meme that renders aficionados impervious to provocation in general and cranky naysayers in particular. Lapsing into lolcat-speak is like an incantation against irritation and for some of us it works beautifully. YM clearly V!

I don’t hang out much in the Pit, but I wandered over today just to find out if there was a thread already started on this subject, and to start one myself if there was not. I don’t usually mind the old, tired jokes. I find them funny time and time again.

If you want to tell a story about how you said “Hi, Opal” from the bottom of the Marianas Trench (just once, for 20 minutes, in 1960) while carving “All Your Base Are Belong to Us” on the seafloor with your 1920’s style deathray, all the while whistling *Rio *by Duran Duran, you get a gold star from me! I’m not a nerd!! I STILL sit at the cool table in the lunch room. I was totally popular, y’all. But we can argue this all day long. The point is if we’re comparing two internet phenomenons at the crest of their popularity, I’m going to get enraged (big surprise) at the one that I feel has less bizarre hilarity. No one talking like a pirate ever amused me. All they ever did was make me really irritated. Noogies for everyone.
