I can't. I have rehearsal.

Hi, may I rant for a minute?

My chorus has rehearsal on Hallowe’en.

We’re part of the Juilliard School–so many of the group are students. And yet we have a three-hour evening rehearsal on Hallowe’en. One of the Official Holidays of New York. From 7 to 10. Aaaaargh!

And sometimes we rehearse on Sunday evenings when everyone else is having dinner with loved ones. And sometimes we have to work half-days so we can go to morning rehearsals with orchestras.

I do not regret all the places that singing has taken me. I have sung at Carnegie Hall and at Lincoln Center and in halls around the world. I sang with an a capella group in college and we rocked and I got to be a big honkin’ diva in front of 2,000-person crowds. (Fun.) I have learned self-discipline. I have made more good friends than I can count. I met the Fabulous Boyfriend in a chorus. I have sung a lot of great music.

But sometimes I wonder what it would be like to have all that free time…

[The title of this thread taken from a Smith College Glee Club t-shirt. Cornell and Smith did a few joint concerts back in the day. Geobabe, do you own one? I wonder if we met on one of those weekends…]

I was not around for Cornell. When were you there? I just graduated from Smith, was in the Glee Club from '98-'01. I flew to Michigan last month to do the Brahms Requiem again as an alum with the UMich boys. Fabulous. I had a hell of a time getting there, but it was totally worth it. Jerry Blackstone is a GOD.

But yeah, I know what you mean about rehearsals. I had to drop out of Glee Club for a semester, and I was amazed at how much free time I had then. But I missed it so.
