Happy birthday, Geoff! You rock!
Way to go.
I think I’m doing well if I play golf, with a cart, three days a week.
Dude, you got some seriously good genes going there! Congrats!!
Well, blondebear, if you’ll excuse me for going into lecture mode, I’ll point out that I’ve been climbing every day, every summer here for 12 years. There are a couple dozen of us nutcases that do it all summer.
The thing is, one has to adapt. Stress and adaptation to stress is what makes it work, and why people can run marathons in the summer too. Plus, the more one works out in the heat, the more capillaries they develop, and the easier it is to dissipate the heat. That and, of course, hydrating. On long day-long hikes/climbs I may guzzle down a couple of gallons of water.
Those who huddle in their air conditioned homes and cars and never get out in the heat, really are at high risk for problems. Besides, I can’t live forever, eh?
[/end lecture mode]
Way to go Geoff! I turned 40 just a couple weeks ago, and I think you would put me to shame. I only hope I can measure up in another 40 years…
A belated Happy Birthday from **Rhiannon8404 **and I!
I want to be just like you!
How about a walk to Green Sands Beach near South Point on the Big Island of Hawaii for your 90th? IIRC, the walk is about 1.5 miles one way over attractive, occasionally rocky but generally fairly easy-going terrain. Going down to the beach itself is a brief scramble down a steep, but secure path (i.e, no loose rocks or anything - it is like a giant staircase). If you need someone to help you down, I volunteer! But the way you are going, sounds to me like you won’t need any help.
C’mon, surely the temptation would be to spend a few hours in a chair on the very summit, yelling at younger climbers, “Hey you kids! Git orf mah mountain!”
At 90, just sit in the same chair and charge $50 a go for bad advice.
Congrats on your birthday!
That is impressive! My mom climbed the Pyramid of the Sun in Teotihuacan, Mexico the day before her 80th, but that’s much less challenging.
No idea what you could do to surpass such a feat…
Happy Birthday!!
GT
I know some mountains you could climb. Or, in the winter, you could climb them and then ski down! And they’re right outside my window…
Happy belated birthday!
Shudder My dive instructor once told me the story of his diving partner having a heart attack underwater – you’re at a higher risk underwater, just because of the strain on your body – and the thought of a 90-year-old going SCUBA diving gives me the heeby-jeebies.
Hey, Dog, there have been some great suggestions posted, but somehow I like your idea best.
Thanks to all you guys for the funny posts and great ideas.
