Cnote—
I read your post and the following disclaimer. Wasn’t taken personally, and I appreciate your candor in amending your tone. But I’ll give your post the respect it deserves, as your consternation may be valid.
There was no ‘one post’ that sent me over the edge, where I threw open the window and said “I’m mad as hell, and I’m not gonna take it anymore!” No one person incited this rant. In fact, as I said in my OP, that it was not a ‘prevalent occurrence on this board’—this issue does not end with this board. I frequent at least four MB’s, and the problem exists on all of them.
I don’t need to level the barrels on any one individual. Since you, and many others, know exactly what I’m talking about, why does the onus lie upon me to drag in every individual I’ve seen perpetrate the aforementioned?
It’s not about ‘balls’ or ‘fear’. If I’m going to decry people who cheat on tests, you don’t need me to bring in a cadre of offenders. I don’t need to cite threads—you know exactly what I’m opposing—and if you feel persecuted because of it because you’ve done it once or twice, the burden isn’t upon me to ‘show you who did it or to shut up about it.’
My burden is to properly and thoughtfully defend my position against those who take issue with my presentation, weighing their words and considering their stance as valid.
If the message offends, it’s because of a.) disagreement b.) guilt or c.) personal issue with my character.
…or d.) totally unrelated given circumstances. You consequently admitted that you were in a foul mood, and I happened to provide the first fodder.
No problem—that’s totally understandable. What’s admirable is you owned it, and I really respect that, FWIW. Tell me your beer preference and I’ll send you a round. My email is in my profile.
If someone has an issue, such as you did, I’ll address the rebuttal. What I’m not gonna do is single someone out who might have done this one or two times, whom I happen to catch at a bad moment, to drag them in here for a slap in the face.
Instead, I chose to generalize my topic in hopes that those who repeatedly perpetrate the given offense, will be convicted by it, or defend it—or to at least assess their motives behind their posts where they may not have before.
Either way, it’ll make them think about the quality of their listening, which is my goal.
