I Didn't Read It, But I Need To Respond

Manda JO

I hate to click on a thread as you said when it’s very old. Some dick head has posted something stupid to it a year after the other threads were posted.

Pariah

This is the internet, so if I post it, you know it’s true. I don’t know what triggered this thread from you, but it feels good to bitch, doesn’t it. Today the last 30 minutes of work were the release of the last months gripes. Once I started I didn’t stop, and the other person in the room was doing the same. My stress is so much less now.

Somebody addressing the same issue on a thread, doesn’t mean it matches my views, and I will post my view. I will post and if you can’t stand to read it tough, but I have read the threads.

If you don’t have time to read the thread, what business do you have posting to it? Not much to be done about it, though. People just chomp at the bit to say something, anything, now, now, NOW. I think the only times I don’t read a whole thread is when it’s in IMHO and they’re asking you to “Post your favorite whatever”.

Skimming through JDT-style posts is almost accpetable–skipping one-liners is not. This is about handy, isn’t it?

This is the internet, so if I post it, you know it’s true.

You know, the following happens enough around here that it personally chaps my ass-

People come into the pit and bitch about a behavior they see time and time again on this board but can’t seem to muster the balls to reference it to a single poster or thread. Instead, they insinuate the majority who sometimes do it to rib the minority who often do it.

I’ve done what you’re bitching about. I’ve done it more than once, too. But I can’t for the fucking life of me figure out if your coming after me or someone else.

How about this- you get a fucking backbone and start naming some names or citing some threads. Or, shut the fuck up. Or are you too afraid that they’ll come in here and flame your ass?

Because, personally, this, “I’m gonna avoid being flamed or ridiculed by being vague and obscure while bitching to the high heavens about some of you” tactic is tiresome and bullshit.

You’re referencing something in your original post or you wouldn’t be that specific. Give some specific examples we can look at or cram it.

Fuuuuck, Cnote . . . how do you walk with that chip on your shoulder?

How’d you like it if I came over there and opened a can of whoop-ass on your butt? Huh? Whatcha gonna do then, andros?
I know, I know, that wasn’t the most appropriate post from me last night. I’m well aware of that this morning and wish I could go back and tone it down a notch. There were extenuating circumstances, however.

I got home from a long day of dealing with shit from people sending me on a never-ending circle of, “Ask him, he’ll know.” “No, ask him, he’ll know” bullshit. Not once could I get a straight answer on anything I was trying to do. It really pissed me off.

On top of that, I come home to pop open a brew and forget my day only to find that I had forgotten to restock the fridge Monday night.

I was pissed and this thread got in the way.

I know it’s not an excuse to pounce all over something, it’s simply an explanation to what was going on when I posted.

I’m just glad I didn’t open a “ I just got a new puppy today!” thread. “Oh yeah? Fuck you and your puppy. I hope it gets worms and drops dead in your vegetable garden. I got problems here. Real problems.”

I’m in much better spirits today, honest.

Umm, I didn’t mean to be screaming that…

Cnote

I read your post and the following disclaimer. Wasn’t taken personally, and I appreciate your candor in amending your tone. But I’ll give your post the respect it deserves, as your consternation may be valid.

There was no ‘one post’ that sent me over the edge, where I threw open the window and said “I’m mad as hell, and I’m not gonna take it anymore!” No one person incited this rant. In fact, as I said in my OP, that it was not a ‘prevalent occurrence on this board’—this issue does not end with this board. I frequent at least four MB’s, and the problem exists on all of them.

I don’t need to level the barrels on any one individual. Since you, and many others, know exactly what I’m talking about, why does the onus lie upon me to drag in every individual I’ve seen perpetrate the aforementioned?

It’s not about ‘balls’ or ‘fear’. If I’m going to decry people who cheat on tests, you don’t need me to bring in a cadre of offenders. I don’t need to cite threads—you know exactly what I’m opposing—and if you feel persecuted because of it because you’ve done it once or twice, the burden isn’t upon me to ‘show you who did it or to shut up about it.’

My burden is to properly and thoughtfully defend my position against those who take issue with my presentation, weighing their words and considering their stance as valid.

If the message offends, it’s because of a.) disagreement b.) guilt or c.) personal issue with my character.

…or d.) totally unrelated given circumstances. You consequently admitted that you were in a foul mood, and I happened to provide the first fodder.

No problem—that’s totally understandable. What’s admirable is you owned it, and I really respect that, FWIW. Tell me your beer preference and I’ll send you a round. My email is in my profile.

If someone has an issue, such as you did, I’ll address the rebuttal. What I’m not gonna do is single someone out who might have done this one or two times, whom I happen to catch at a bad moment, to drag them in here for a slap in the face.

Instead, I chose to generalize my topic in hopes that those who repeatedly perpetrate the given offense, will be convicted by it, or defend it—or to at least assess their motives behind their posts where they may not have before.

Either way, it’ll make them think about the quality of their listening, which is my goal.

No harm, no foul, Chris . . . hell, I’ve got a 3-month-old at home. I’m close to stomping some puppies myself.
