And out near the end of that pointy sticky outie Keweenahi thingi in the middle of Great Gitchigumi is Mt. Bohemia, a ski hill designed for tree skiing. $100 bucks a year for an early season’s pass, over 270 inches fresh in a typical winter (four times what we get at the top of the lake in TBay), and lots and lots and lots of trees. Lots.
Thanks, all y’all prairie dogs, for sending some of your storm our way. It’s bringing a lot of joy to the skiers in Thunder Bay, for we hadn’t received much snow this winter.
If you happen to have a CP Rail line anywhere near you, just ship that white stuff our way.
Whereas it was 72F where I’m at today. I went for a mtn bike ride before work and the green grass was speckled with blue and yellow blossoms as well as purple Lupin, I saw a couple of Gopher snakes, one a baby, sunning themselves in the middle of the trail. Poison Oak is out in force, but I can live with that.
I daresay that at this time of year, your observations and experiences will do little to endear you to those of us who live in northern climes, who put up with wildly fluctuating day/night temps, and who are sick of clearing snow off the car every morning in March. As we’ve done since last fall.
Mods, I would suggest that if any of us Canucks, who have suffered an honest-to-God real winter since last October or November, loses it as as result of outlierrn’s post, it is not a bannable offense.
Learned from experience: always ensure that there is a shovel inside the hot-tub cabana, just in case a sudden storm deposits a six foot drift against the door while you are soaking, forcing you to paw your way out using your hands.
Actually, even in England (probably not in the south but I wouldn’t bet on it), there forecast is for blizzards and “atrocious conditions” (the words of the normally unalarmist Met Office) at the end of the week.
It’s nearly April, for fuck’s sake. We have had literally three days this year so far when the temperature has crept above 10ºC. I like snow but it’s time for spring now.
You’re right, that was unkind. My sister is in the Adirondaks, so she’s used to my digs. If it helps, we are 7’’ behind in our rainfall for this year, it will be a long dry summer with water restrictions likely.
See, this is why I love the UK. You never hear Environment Canada forecasting “Atrocious Conditions”. Although I shudder to think what would constitute this when Cold Lake is supposed to get 10 cm of snow today, 10 more tomorrow and windchills in the -30s.
To outlierrn; :p. I sincerely hope you get poison oak stuck in your nether regions…I am kidding!
To everyone in Sask/Manitoba, I am so sorry, you can expect more winter joy in about 10 hrs or so…
Yeah, well “atrocious conditions” in the UK probably equate to “slight breeze with a dusting of snow” in Canada.
That said, even the usually mild Channel Islands had a very notable snowfall earlier this month. See picture 3 on this page, for instance. Bear in mind any snow at all is a rare event in the Channel Islands.
Unfortunately, the system that was meant to dump quite a lot of snow in southern England (where I live) veered south at the last minute and dumped it on the Channel Islands and northern France (which got over 1 metre in places) instead. Where I live, we had a couple of hours of fairly light snow that didn’t even settle.
At the end of this week the heavy snow is forecast to be further north over the Midlands and northern England, so I’m hoping it does the slipping southwards thing again.
