I don’t understand how to share photos with Dropbox

Or maybe I don’t understand Dropbox. I have about 30 GB worth of files in my Dropbox folder. Since the bulk of the files are pics/video of the Dudeling, I want to share these with his motley crew of grandparents. I successfully sent them an invite to a newly created Dropbox account, but they’re running into a “You’ll run out of space if you accept this invitation. To accept, get more space.”

All I want is an easy way for them to see pictures on my account—is ‘sharing’ the wrong option? Am I doing something wrong? Am I wrong in using Dropbox for this?

Try the Public folder. Drop a pic in it, wait for it to upload, right click the pic, copy the URL (with my Mac there is no indication it has done so) and paste it into an email.

I’ve manually shared links with clients, but those have always been one-off sends. Is there a way to automate it? As in, when I take a pic each of their computers pops up a ‘you have a new file’ message.

The thing is, this is how it pretty much works with one set of grandparents. If I fail to achieve balance in the force, we could reach DefCon 1 in no time.

It is confusing, the way they present it. You can use the Link feature, not Share, which is for sharing with other Dropbox users. So, put the photos in a folder, then in the Dropbox web interface hover over the folder and click on the link icon that appears. Ignore the stuff about sharing the link via Twitter and what-not, and just copy the URL. Send that URL to whoever you want to share the photos with. They don’t need Dropbox.

Ok, I tried. All I know is this:

Riboyno shel oylom
Ich vil dir a dudele zingen:

[Yiddish]
Master of the Universe!
I will sing a song to You (familiar)

Any help?

Wow. Never knew this. Wonder if my Prof. ever saw my submissions…

Okay, I’m fucked. I tried Leo’s suggestion and now my in-laws have the power of Greyskull. The. Power. Of. Greyskull.

On the bright side, they now have advanced degrees in chemical engineering.
