Want to share photos online. Looking for advice.

I took hundreds of photos while I was building a rec room in the basement. The show how I did the floor, walls, ceiling, etc. I would like to post these photos online to give other homeowners ideas & tips on how to do the same.

I am aware of sites like Photobucket and Dropbox. But here’s the thing: all of my photos are nicely organized in folders on my hard drive. There are over 30 folders, and each folder is labeled to describe the photos contain within.

I would like to keep the photos in each folder.

Is there a free online site where I can upload complete folders? And then anyone else (with the URL) can open the folders to view the photos contained within?

I’m pretty sure that Dropbox will keep your folder names and structure.

Photobucket has folders, but I’m not sure if you’ll need to create the structure on their site or if you can upload your structure along with your photos.

Photobucket has folders. In fact, I would guess (but I don’t know) that most photosharing websites have folders as well.

Photobucket also supports drag and drop. I haven’t tried dragging and dropping more than one picture at a time though.

ETA Ninja’d by Gary. I’ll add that even if it doesn’t support the folder structure, it’s pretty trivial to create 30 folders and just upload one folder at a time.

ETA2, I just tried uploading (via drag and drop) 3 photos at once and it worked fine, at least they started uploading, I assume they’d finish if I didn’t close the page. I’m going to make an ass out of me and say that you could probably drop the entire folder (that is, highlight all the pictures and drag them over) and upload them all at once.
While that’s running, you could create the next folder and if you have a really solid internet service, you could start the next set of pictures uploading and keep going, but I’d just do one at time. It would be a mess to clean up if they crash.

Thanks for the replies. Though I’m wondering if I can select an entire folder on my HD (name an all) and upload it? Or better yet, select a folder on my HD that contains many subfolders, and upload the whole thing in one step?

I don’t think Photobucket will do that (but I’ve never tried). However, Dropbox might allow it, but I know nothing about how Dropbox works to share pictures. The only time I use it is to transfer files from my computer to my phone or from work to home when I don’t want or can’t email them.

I just tried it in Dropbox. Drag and drop a folder to the dropbox folder, and all files and subfolders (with files) were transferred. Then you can simply share the top level folder and all subfolders are also shared. You enter the email addresses that you want to share with and Dropbox sends a message with a link.

Can you ‘hot’ link single pictures from Dropbox?

That worked! I copied & pasted a folder into the dropbox folder on my HD, and it showed up in the online folder. Thanks.
