Exactly. Per my earlier post, I rarely have the opportunity to speak the Pledge while I’m anally penetrating a Bride of Christ. In such a situation, you would see my hand on my heart during the recitation, but it would be a coincidence.

I don’t think America or the flag are diminished by his not putting his hand on his heart. I’d just like to know why he doesn’t do it. And, I don’t think Jehovah’s Witnesses hate America, but I don’t think they’re patriotic either. The reason Jehovah’s Witnesses don’t say the pledge of allegiance is because they don’t believe in patriotism…they think that they should only pledge allegiance to and be loyal to God and not to any secular governments or countries. So, I know why they don’t do it, but I don’t know why he doesn’t do it. It’s not going to stop me from voting for him, but I still think he should do it.

It’s actually for both. From the Flag Code:

    A. all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart; 

    B.  men not in uniform should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold the headdress at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart; and 

     C. individuals in uniform should give the military salute at the first note of the anthem and maintain that position until the last note; and 

 2. when the flag is not displayed, all present should face toward the music and act in the same manner they would if the flag were displayed.

This seems odd to me as I never heard of it. I’ve searched two archives of the Flag Code, and can’t find a reference to the national anthem. I could have overlooked it, so perhaps you could point out where it is stated about putting one’s hand over the heart during the national anthem.

Not really. Although it is technically federal law, any attempt to enforce the etiquette-related portions of the Code (like the flag code) would be a violation of the First Amendment.
