ROFLMAO

And a smilie too ya prick

That’s funny. Some of the same posters making such fools of themselves in this thread had very different reactions to a similar thread here in the Pit not too long ago.

This current thread was opened by a relative newbie, though. We can’t have someone with less than 100 posts criticizing us, can we? No. We’re too fucking insecure and comfortable with the behaviors that we have developed to allow that someone might have something valid to say about the silly crap we post. Let’s all prove what total assholes we are by posting ridiculous shit that does absolutely nothing to refute the validity of this poster’s suggestion.

This makes me so fucking proud.

ROFLMMFAOSHIPIMPSSOTC!! ITYNTLU. YTT, YABWTOS. CO.

Tymp, I agree that you have a point about who we will take shit from here, and I agree that Davis’s post count shouldn’t be at issue. However, I disagree that this thread and the one you cited are similar. In the other thread, Flyp was opining that certain terms and behaviors had become SDMB’s version of “Whaaaassssuuuuup?”, and that it was time to move on. Davis, on the other hand, is saying that giving other posters affirmation that their joke was actually funny is wrong. I tend to agree with Flyp, and definitely disagree with Davis. My opinions are not based on post counts.

I’m not exactly sure what DavisMcDavis has a problem with. If it’s any post that responds to something humorous by letting the original poster know the reader found it funny, then I disagree with him. Sure, it’s possible to go overboard with “OMG, that was so funny, thanks for posting that” type responses, but hey, people post things they consider funny to get a reaction of some sort from others, and I don’t think it’s inappropriate to let a poster know that what he thought was funny was in fact that.

However, if his point is just that LOL and ROFLMAO are overused, irritating, and AOL-ish, then I agree with him. Unfortunately, complaining about their use is rather pointless, as not many people are going to say “Uh-oh, DavisMcDavis and Amok don’t like ‘LOL’, I better not use it.” Sure, maybe the world would be a better place if people did, but then they’d expect us to stop doing things that irritated them, and that would be too heavy a price to pay.

Well, personally, I like it when someone appreciates my post or wit. So, folks, keep on laffin. Oh, and a few of those new LOL acronyms did give a good chuckle, thanks, guys.

AOL-ish? I don’t think so. Since I started passing notes in second grade I’ve been using “LOL” and other acronyms to indicate that whatever I had written was to be taken lightly.

TYMP says:

Did I miss something? He appears to have successfully posted his criticism. Or are you insinuating that, because he’s a newbie (or for some other unknown reason), we’re all obligated to agree with him? Don’t think so.

Follow me closely here: The fact that someone posts something here does not automatically mean it’s valid. The fact that someone posts something here that I disagree with, valid or not, does not automatically make me “fucking insecure.” Everybody’s got an opinion, and everybody get’s to post it if they want, m’kay?

Or, better yet, let’s prove what total assholes we are by gratuitously attacking other posters who don’t happen to agree with us.

Thanks, Dad.

I always thought that LOL and the like are used because this is the INTERNET, and we can’t see facial expressions, or hear tones of voice, etc. Sometimes, unfortunately, some posts come off as serious, sarcastic, etc, without that intention.
I think the abbreviations help.
IMHO.

Guys guys guys…you might be hurting his feelings! Maybe :snicker: he was serious :hehe:

:Putting arm around McDork’s shoulder: There there man, I won’t :giggle: laugh at what you said…

LOL! Who am I kidding? Hehehee…I’ll have to find a spot for this OP in my list of idiotic threads.

Winnah, winnah , winnah!!! I could not have said it better myself!

Tee he he

You guys are HILARIOUS!

I fail to see how the fact that the original poster had only 22 posts under his cyberbelt has any bearing on this topic.

I have seen topics in here dealing with all sorts of fricked up stuff, some of which I agreed with, most of which I did not.

Is this ‘my post count is bigger than yours’ a penis thing? … I am confused (especially by female posters with large post counts …).

Anyhow, such is life and so on and so forth c’est la vie il y a une manchotte dans mes pantalons et il t’aime
