I don’t have a Facebook account but recently I’ve started receiving emails from Facebook whenever some dude updates or comments on something. They’re legit emails from Facebook, no phishing here as far as I can tell. I’ve clicked the unsubscribe link to stop this nonsense but the emails just keep coming in. If I click the see comment button in the email it takes me to the real Facebook and has my email address prepopulated in the email/phone field.
Did someone on Facebook use by email address by mistake? How do I put an end to these emails?
My favorite one came in today from Stephen who’s apparently a friend of the person that is using my email address and commenting on a photo:
Stephen wrote: “Jesus told me yesterday that he doesn’t want you misrepresenting him anymore Weef.”
It seems like the comment was made directly to me (the Weef part was my real but common name).
Someone signed up for FB using your email address. I’ve had the same thing happen to me. Oddly enough, they don’t verify emails when you sign up for an account.
You will need to go to FB and act as if you lost your password. Then sign in with the recovery password and delete the account.
I tried the password reset and had a 6 digit code emailed to me which I entered and moved on to the change password step. I entered a new password and then Facebook tells me I’ve never logged on from this device so I need to answer a few security questions. The capcha was easy enough but then it asks for my birthday and I’m stopped in my tracks. I tried my birthday in case this was my evil twin’s account but no luck. So Facebook allows you to set up an account with someone else’s email and then doesn’t allow the person with the email address to access it.
I don’t understand how it’s happening, as any decent site will require you to reply from that email account (and I know I had to do it on Facebook when I changed my email.)
I do know the easiest way to stop it. All Facebook emails will allow you to just click the unsubscribe link. That’s the only way to set specific email notification settings. If that’s not working, then I suggest you email Facebook support and tell them what happened. There should be a link in the emails.
I did this on the first five emails or so and at first would even happily answer their little survey about why I wanted to unsubscribe to emails but the emails just keep coming. The person with my email address must be logging in to Facebook using this email address that’s not theirs. Freaking moron. And Facebook has all these security concerns and procedures about changing passwords but doesn’t verify the email address when the account is created. Simple amazing.
You can try to contact facebook. You will have to create an account with another email and then report the account created with your name. You can also try to check if someone is actually posting stuff… another option is trying to contact some of your twin brother’s friends and ask them to tell your twin to fix that issue. If you want I can try to do that for you.
