NYC is getting its first real snow of the winter and, of course, the whole place is falling apart.
The MTA is announcing delays on both trains I take to get home. And by “delays” they really mean, “I hope you have a good long book and a large bladder, because you’re gonna be here a while.” I’m still stuck at work for another hour and a half, but I think things are going to get worse before they get better. A coworker of mine is worried he won’t be able to get home at all – his normal trains have been rerouted entirely.
I suggested an office snowed-in slumber party. We’d raid the soda and candy machine and tell spooky ghost stories. But I always suggest that, no matter what the weather.
Anyone have a pack of sled dogs they’d like to let me borrow?
Just got laid off in Washington DC and am planning to move back to NYC. I knew there was some reason that I was dying to do so! Seriously though, why should snow slow down the trains? Rain doesn’t.
No, but I have a big apartment and a queen size inflatable guest bed if you’d like to stay with me. My train line appears to be operating without a problem and if you come over we can totally buy soda and candy at the deli and have a girly sleep over!
Fiddle Peghead, rain often does too. Let me introduce you to my best friend, The L Train, sometime. But I have no idea why it’s so much worse in the snow.
pbbth, you better not be toying with me, because if this gets worse I’m going to be on your doorstep. Dressed like a FedEx guy.
You obviously haven’t read far enough in that thread to have found out about my genius idea with the safari net!
I’m totally serious, though. You are welcome to stay over even if there isn’t snow. You can come over just to hang out without transportation issues anytime you’d like. But if you come dressed as a FedEx guy I can’t promise not to trap you in a giant net in a very comical way.
My office is closing early…I’m going to pm you my address and directions to my place.
Can you do anything about the fact that my flight out of NYC got canceled? I was at the airport (Newark, for some idiotic reason) for eight hours, actually ON THE RUNWAY, when they pulled back in and said “Sorry, flight’s been canceled and there are no available flights on any airline between now and Christmas.” So I here I am, still in NYC, not spending Christmas with my family. Bah humbug.
P.S. The subways coming back to my apartment were fine. :smack:
I find it very hard to believe that there’s absolutely no availability between now and next Wednesday from NYC to… where are you going?
Not that I’m doubting this occured, btw. I don’t doubt for a second that you were dealing with an overworked, underpaid, and clearly tired employee of the airline.
I was heading to Oklahoma City, not exactly a major airline hub. And it wasn’t really a specific employee we were dealing with. I mean, every single person on the flight was displaced, so we were all in line, dealing with several different people who were telling us the same thing: that every airline was booked through Christmas on that particular route.
Ah… gotcha. In any case, it isn’t true. United and Continental are selling seats for as soon as tomorrow from EWR-OKC (with a connection); American from both LGA and JFK (with connections). It may be that there aren’t any direct flights available, but there are certainly ways, and seats for sale, to get to Oklahoma City as early as tomorrow morning. Though I suppose that’s not very helpful if the airline you were on isn’t being helpful in terms of rebooking you. :-/
Hmm… well I don’t know then. Right now at continental.com, the only thing that comes up is a $1,200 flight that gets into OKC at 10:40pm. Now, it would have been nice to hear about that one, but maybe it wasn’t available earlier today, and I probably wouldn’t have taken it anyway. I think I’m going to try to go on the 26th… better than nothing, I suppose.
