This is a picture of Q.E.D. that it will be hard to get out of my mind now.
I’m not sure if I should thank you or not.
I was hoping I could get Ed Zotti to expand on that, but he seemed rather unwilling to. I find it rather hard to reconcile his statement that he wishes to make money as soon as possible out of the Dope, with the way he runs it.
Q.E.D. has been adamant that the Straight Dope is not a business, yet Ed Zotti has said he wants to make money from it. To me, that sounds like a business.
Both prior to the upgrade and after it, it seems to to have been beleaguered with all sorts of problems and issues. I haven’t come across any other boards that have been subject to so many crashes. I haven’t come across any other boards where searching seems to be in such a major problem. I haven’t come across any other boards that have had problems implementing the taking of credit card charges. I have not come across any other boards that have either ignored or taken scant interest in its paying customers desires for improvements.
I have always been unclear as to exactly what Jerry’s position is. Is he merely someone who is just helping out, a volunteer? Is he paid to do his job and if so, is he as has been suggested, a director? If he is a paid employee, has he been instructed (presumably by Ed Zotti) to treat his work on the Dope as low priority? If so, that doesn’t square with Ed Zotti’s moneymaking desires. I have absolutely no idea as to how technically boards are run, so I have no idea what the difficulties can involve. But I presume that the inability to solve problems can only be attributable to lack of interest, lack of money, or lack of expertise.
Whilst composing the above I missed some of the subsequent comments, particularly Polycarp’s which answers some of my points.
