I don't like Diet Coke anymore (truly M&P)

I’ve been drinking Diet Coke since it was introduced way back in 1982. Every single day for, what, 23 years? And suddenly (like yesterday suddenly) it tastes gross and way too sweet. I feel oddly depressed about this, like I’ve just passed a maturity milestone and am now a grown-up. Sigh…

Uh oh. You better not’ve ruined it for me!

OK, I just ran into the other room and got a Vanilla Diet Coke from the office fridge.

Mmmmm… Just as tolerable as ever! Whew!

Give it a try in a few months. I just saw that they’re switching to Splenda (sucralose) soon instead of Nutra Sweet (aspartame).

Maybe that’ll make it taste better; I’ve never tried Splenda in anything. Ugh, I’m forcing down a can right now (for the caffeine). Maybe I have a brain tumor and it’s affecting my taste receptors…

I’ve been having the same reaction to soda lately. I absolutely cannot drink the stuff with sugar any more. It tastes lovely, but it makes me sick to my stomach after a few swallows. And somedays the thought of a diet soda is almost as unappealing. Fizzy water with some fake flavors and fake sweeteners. Yipee.

Juice is almost as sickly sweet as soda! Why do they have to add sugar or concentrated grape juice to everything? There are some organic / whole foods brands that aren’t so terribly sweet, but they’re awfully expensive.

I absolutely love Glaceau VitaminWater. And they used to make this stuff called Smartwater, that was awesome, too. Subtly flavored, just a touch sweet, it was wonderful. And if you like iced tea, Honest Tea makes several flavors that have just a touch of sugar.

And I drink plain water and flavored seltzer water, but sometimes that’s just too bland.

I’m trying not to be a typical poster, but me too!

I got sick with a viral ick (technical term) a couple weeks ago, but I was still trying to drink a Diet Coke every so often (afraid of the lack of caffeine) and it just made me sick to my stomach (and it wasn’t a stomach bug!) I’d noticed it didn’t taste great to me before that, but the time I was sick capped it.

I’ve managed to wean myself off caffeine based on the illness, and can occasionally drink a non-caffeinated Diet Coke, but I’ve mostly switched to the fruit flavored Diet Rites, which use Splenda.

It must be the formula, or something, if I’m not the only one having issues with the taste all of a sudden. I wonder what they did…

I love diet coke. I really like the taste. The only problem is, after I drink it I lose my vision to migrane auras for a while. I am looking forward to the new diet coke-better taste, less blindness!

Well, there’s always beer.

Mmmmmm, beer. However, for whatever reason, my company has chosen not to stock any in the breakroom fridge…

Diet Coke is OK, but I’ve found there are a lot of things I like better. Mostly I get stuck drinking it on the rare occasion I’m eating out and even rarer, don’t want iced tea or water. It’s pretty much the only diet option ever in fountain drinks. AW&W Hamburger places have diet A&W, but root beer is one thing that the diet version is just gross. I like Pepsi One, and that Diet Rite stuff with Splenda’s not bad (minus points for not having a caffienated version). Diet RC Cola is good when you can find it.

Looking forward to trying the new diet coke. I like Splenda and usually use it in my coffee, I’d like to try it for baking, but the stuff is just way too expensive vs. a 79-cent bag of sugar. :frowning:

I like C2 and will sometimes have one when I’m feeling lightheaded and need some sugar in my system quick. Pepsi Edge, for some reason, is just kind of “meh.” I’d rather just have diet Pepsi, or diet Pepsi twist.

What I’m really liking lately though is that Diet Vanilla Cherry Dr. Pepper.

What a mouthful… but it tastes pretty good.

Yay for artificial sweeteners!
