Please find a way to allow us to totally disable Badges. They’re fine for Cub Scouts and other children, but I find them annoying and even demeaning.

How about “disabling” them by just ignoring them? As far as I can tell, they’re not necessary to participating on the board.
If you’re so up in arms about badges, why are you so excited about being a 99’er?
Since every badge change sends you a notification and at least sometimes an email, they aren’t easy to ignore. They’re like those kids who kick the back of your seat on a plane.
I simply used that as non-excited verbal noise. And that has nothing whatsoever with badges – there are no badges for being an early user.
No, there aren’t. But there are labels that the community has informally assigned to such things - which is functionally identical to what badges are. And you can turn off the emails if you want.
I’m sure you love the little gold stars your kindergarten teacher gave you and everyone else, regardless of how poor your contribution was.
I like the badges. I also loved getting stars and things like that in school.
I love the little sticker they give me for voting.
I’m a sucker for such things.
In the big picture it’s such a little thing and it makes some people happy.
No harm done.
I promise you, no one here will think any better of you because of how many badges you have.

I don’t think I’ve gotten a single email about badges. And the only notifications I’ve seen is a small blue mark by my avatar which disappears of you click on it. They are super easy to ignore if you want to ignore them. 
And after a while, pretty soon actually, when you are getting no badges anymore, you’ll start to miss them.
I had forgotten about the badges until this thread brought them up again. I find them easy to ignore.
Me too. Looks like we each have 16 currently (more to come, I’m sure).
This is short-lived. Once you’ve been here awhile, you’ll totally forget about them.
