I don't understand MPSIMS vs IMHO

I’m sorry, I don’t understand which threads go where. I was gone when the new forum was created, and I just never figured it out. Several of my threads have been moved.

So, before I post this: A thread asking people to share stories of supernatural occurences – MPSIMS or IMHO?

IMHO is more for polling and personal opinions. MPSIMS tends to be a catch-all for anything that doesn’t really fit into any of the other categories. To use your example :

“Do you believe in supernatural phenomena” since you’re asking for others’ opinions would be IMHO

while

“Share your supernatural stories” since it’s just story-telling would be MPSIMS.

Hope this helps.

Ok, here goes…

For future reference, which is less annoying: me posting here to ask about threads, or me acidently posting in the wrong forum a whole bunch of times?

Although I will try to avoid both.

I believe that this question is better suited for IMHO.

Asking questions in ATMB is never annoying. Posting repeatedly in the wrong forums is always annoying.

Sooooo…

[rocket science]

To address the OP:

IMHO is for polling, and for “Great Debates Lite”.
MPSIMS is for Mundane Pointless Stuff I Must Share.

Does that help?

My personal preference is that posters ask in ATMB or via e-mail if they’re not sure where to start a thread.

Ok, that’s what I will do. Thank you.

All that having been said, please note that:
(a) it’s not a cardinal sin to inadvertently post in the wrong thread once in a while;
(b) sometimes the distinction of where a particular topic should go is not clear – even mods disagree; and
© if you do happen to post in a forum and the moderator thinks it belongs elsewhere, it’ll get moved with a link… hence, see (a) above.

Maybe in your belief system. But how do you know what we atheists/unitarians classify as a cardinal sin?

I think this question really belongs in Great Debates.

Wasn’t Cardinal Sin that Philipino guy with the expensive hat?

Recent Thread: How many music CDs do you have?

In IMHO.

True it is sort of like a poll. But the question itself is definitely definable as pointless or mundane…not to mention the fact it fits well in Cafe Society

Yes, “how many CDs do you have” is a poll, so it’s in the right place. There’s more to MPSIMS than “mundane pointless”: Mundane, pointless threads can show up in any forum (although they’re rather rare in GQ, say). The key is “stuff I must share”. In MPSIMS, it’s the OP who’s sharing, whereas in IMHO the OP is asking everyone else to share.

Just to clarify further, just a poll asking for the number of CDs you have would be IMHO. Talking about the CDs themselves would be Cafe Society.
