Every time I read this – and you’re far from the only one flogging this idiotic version of events, even today on this forum – I lose all hope for this country.
No mention ever that the 2016 election was the furthest thing from a “normal” election as we ever had, due to the extensive and proven subversion by Putin of our election process.
Hillary Clinton was unfairly maligned, Bernie Sanders was artificially supported, with significant, specific efforts made on social media to turn Bernie supporters against Clinton supporters. Man, did it ever work.
Putin supported Trump in every possible way even as Trump eagerly accepted that help.
2016 was not a fair or normal election by any measure. We were and remain Democrats against Democrats, blaming the “other side” for losing to Donald Trump. Putin must laugh his ass off every single day over this splendid gift he gave himself that just keeps on giving.
It’s yet another reason I hate Trump, for being so shockingly corrupt that he accepted Putin’s help and in doing so, cared only for how he could benefit – and never giving a shit that he undermined the very fabric of this country in so many ways.
But the fact that we continue to buy this garbage narrative that Hillary couldn’t win or that Bernie was shat upon? That’s on us.
The thing is, people hated Clinton. I voted for her because she was better and more qualified than Trump. But a lot of people would not vote for her simply because she was Clinton. Could Sanders have won? I don’t know. But I think a lot of people liked him better than Trump. I think the Democrats chose Clinton because it was ‘her turn’, instead of looking at the baggage she carried.
I don’t think we should hijack this thread to relitigate and rehash 2016. But you’re not looking at why she was so hated, and who was pushing the narratives. If you did, you might have to admit your thinking was manipulated, along with mine and millions of our fellow citizens.
Everyone believes these thoughts were their own. They weren’t, and no one wants to accept this was possible. It was. It happened.
If you doubt the power of propaganda, look no further than the 25% of citizens who remain under Trump’s influence, largely due to Fox “News,” despite mountains of evidence of his corruption and criminal nature as outlined in this thread.
I won’t engage on this subject further in this thread but will discuss it in a different thread if you wish. I’m asking you and others to think about what I said. You cannot talk about 2016 and just hand wave away Putin’s influence on the outcome. The longer we minimize the power of propaganda on our population, the longer we remain highly vulnerable to it.
