Y’know, there’s a bit of self-fulfilling prophecy in the “Sterger is a ho” argument.
Let’s assume her account is accurate (I suspect it is). If I’m her, I’m seeing this thing blow up, and threaten my nascent career, and dog me for years as “the chick that Brett Favre wanted to bang” (or worse) … at some point, I think to myself that if it’s out of my control to stop this from irreparably damaging my career, I’m damn sure I get something for it. It ain’t like she’s making big cash at now, and it ain’t like Favre couldn’t pinch off a half-million for her.
IOW, she looks at people like unwashed brain, who are going to conclude she’s a ho no matter what she does or what the facts are, and says “if people are going to think I’m a ho anyway, I better at least make sure I get paid.” So then she does, and the nimrods can say “See! See!”
Which is why this bothers me so much. unwashed brain and the rest of the people like him are feigning curiosity in the subject - “I have an interesting theory to explore” – when in fact if they were legitimately interested in the answers to their questions they could just find them out and, if they were being fair, they wouldn’t have those theories anymore. Hell, brain here is asking questions that have been answered already in this thread.
Meanwhile – almost incidentally – a famous athlete has allegedly committed some kind of criminal act against this lady. Her response apparently was to do not quite everything she could to cover it up, but quite a bit, even though she wanted him to be caught and was really creeped out by it. Because she knew that this is what would happen, she was afraid she’d lose her job, and she was afraid her career would be damaged. Meanwhile, by all rights, she should have been able to make a big stink out of it immediately, he’d have been pilloried and charged with a crime, and she’d suffer no harm to her reputation just for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. If this was any other dynamic, she probably could have done so. But since it’s a famous person who sexually harassed her, and since she’s a lady who is already famous for looking the way she looks, she knew doing that would hurt her more than it would help anything. And we’re proving her right in this thread. It’s a perfect example of the way we’re fucked up about gender and about sexual assaults, and the way we blame victims, except it’s easier to talk about here because nobody got physically harmed, at least.
My guess is it would be used to attack her credibility were this ever to appear in a courtroom (or a settlement negotiation, for that matter). I don’t make such leaps of inference, but I’ve seen juries do it on TV. Suffice it to say she falls somewhere outside the American moral-economical norm with regard to sex and money, which can work both for and against you depending on context.
So now it’s apt again. I only reminded you because you just said you don’t make those leaps of inference about credibility. Which is good, because what I’m asking is pretty straightforward and we’ve eliminated the credibility issue. So what does Playboy have to do with what happened with Favre?
Quite possibly nothing, but events do not happen in a vacuum. Your personal history is definitely in play in situations like this. Were someone trying to paint her as a money-grubbing whore, they’d have a data point in their favor. I realize these events may be isolated in every sense of the word, but the fact is they’re not, because they involve a woman who accepted money to appear in softcore pornography. She’s proven she will use her sexuality to further her career. Some people might call that a character flaw, a flaw which may have led her to entice Mr. Favre out of his Wranglers.
Just saying. It’s an easier picture to paint than if she were a nun and the same thing happened to her.
IANAL, but my guess is there’s an actual monetary answer to that question. Depends on if it’ll sell that she’s of questionable moral character, finally succumbing to the temptation to cash in.
It’s plausible the publicity factored into her hirings.
So because she was in Playboy she’s obligated to what? Smile and put up with every disgusting creep who can’t take no for an answer? Or is she only obligated to put up with Favres harassment? Is it possible to harass a Playboy model or are they open game because they once posed semi-nude? Or are you suggesting only whores would pose for Playboy (with the implicit assumption that whores arent people and they all have it coming to them anyway) None of these make any logical sense but you sure act like whatever ridiculous point your making is logical, hence my confusion. IF she profits from this at all, Favre has nobody to blame but his lecherous self because it is all his fault. Your posts don’t change that fact they just reveal whatever unhealthy issues you have with women.
Just out of curiousity, for those who are wondering “what Jenn Sterger is up to” do you guys feel that she somehow masterminded Favre into sending her photos of his dick? I don’t know how exactly - maybe she told him she was a medical student and she needed study material for a urology class.
You’ve taken my ideas and run down some path with them in order to fit them into your ideas about victimization. Nowhere did I ever say Miss Sterger deserved anything that she claims happened to her. Nobody deserves sexual harassment. Please step away from your soapbox.
