I dunno what's saddest... (AR school board member and really anti-gay commentary)

(From CNN.)

  1. That he thought these comments would go unnoticed?
  2. That they would be noticed, but no one would care, or everyone would agree with him?
  3. That not long ago, he would’ve been right, on possibly both counts?
  4. That he still COULD have been right, possibly on both counts?

Still… Facebook… The Internet… Local news has gotten a lot less local… You’d think folks would realize that by now.

ETA: Goddammit, I knew I shouldn’t have depended on vague memory for Arkansas’ postal abbreviation. Can a mod fix that, please? :stuck_out_tongue:

Done.

Well, I try to stay calm, I try not to go into RO too much, but the Midlands School District in Arkansas has come into the news-o-sphere.

Well, in truth an elected member of the board. The board itself is taking exception to the facebook postings of Clint McCance.

Commenting upon some sort of movement to honor children bullied to death for being Gay;

“Seriously they want me to wear purple because five queers killed themselves. The only way im wearin it for them is if they all commit suicide. I cant believe the people of this world have gotten this stupid. We are honoring the fact that they sinned and killed thereselves because of their sin. REALLY PEOPLE.”

and

“No because being a fag doesn’t give you the right to ruin the rest of our lives. If you get easily offended by being called a fag then dont tell anyone you are a fag. Keep that shit to yourself. I dont care how people decide to live their lives. They dont bother me if they keep it to thereselves. It pisses me off though that we make a special purple fag day for them. I like that fags cant procreate. I also enjoy the fact that they often give each other aids and die. If you arent against it, you might as well be for it.”

and

“I would disown my kids they were gay. They will not be welcome at my home or in my vicinity. I will absolutely run them off. Of course my kids will know better. My kids will have solid christian beliefs. See it infects everyone.”

Hell the spelling alone is enough reason to be outraged.

Gee. What a charming guy.

Look on the bright side - they WERE noticed, they WERE condemned (including by the Superintendent and the state DoE) and his life will now be made more difficult for what he said.

I’m sure there will be those people who will write to him privately to support him, and I’m also sure that the official reaction owes more to “ohgodpleasedon’tsueus” than genuine moral outrage (although there may be that as well), but things are at least moving in the right direction.

  1. That the comments arose in the context of an awarenewss campaign design to reach out to gay kids and let them know they can should count on support from officialdom.

Well, sure, but if they think they’re right then what’s the problem? It just gives them a louder amplifier.

As an Arkansas native, I’m always thrilled to see stories like this. This guy is clearly an idiot.

… how do you “live your life” and “keep it to yourself” simultaneously? Call me weird, but I was raised to believe that a big part of living is what you share with others.

People who have this much difficulty talking and chewing gum at the same time always make me wish for a gumball machine.

It is remarkable if only because he does not seem to understand how FaceBook works.

::Some derogatory comment aimed at all people in Arkansas::

This guy puts his foot in his mouth and then shoots himself in the foot. Problem is, IF he loses his job it won’t be because of the comments but because of the uproar caused by the comments and the district will want to look like they are doing something.

He is an elected official. He cannot be fired.

Sure he can. I’m sure there are recall procedures in place, as well as methods of discipline available to the School Board.

Thinking it is dumb enough. Posting it on facebook is insanity.

I wonder which party he may be affiliated with?

:dubious: Clearly, a Democrat!

CMC fnord!

There is a petition for resignation (to School Board) here if anyone is interested. Just sayin’…

He is a bad thing for those kids no matter how it is looked at! It’d be fine with me if he drew some pictures of that Islamic god and then had one of those ‘kill him for that’ things (fatwa??) issued so he fears to even show his face in public. It’d make for great experiences for him, I imagine, being hated to the point of his life being in actual danger - because of a religious ‘belief’

If Fox News covers the story, maybe: Fox News Identifies Mark Sanford As A Democrat | HuffPost Latest News

Wait, this guy’s on the school board? He writes and spells like a 12 year old.

“I would disown my kids they were gay. They will not be welcome at my home or in my vicinity. I will absolutely run them off. Of course my kids will know better.”

Is there really any excuse anymore for thinking one’s sexual preference is something that a person can control?

If they really “knew better” about how to be born, maybe they’d have chosen not to have this asshole as a Dad.
