though, of course, it hasn’t been updating through the rankings. darn slow rankings board.
[sub]ps; Menocchio, i get the reference. does she have a +99 sentient artifact double broadsword of slaying everything, dancing, ninelivesstealing, -the magus, flaming, scintillating energy, spellcasting, returning, throwable, spell turning, invulnerability, breathing water, invisiblitity, enviroments, vorpal, and sharpness yet?
pps; that story has been unfinished for years. this pains me.[/sub]
It’s mildly disturbing that I’ve been running this thing for maybe 60 hours… and there are 25,000 other people in the world who have already done so even longer!
Ah, well. Meanwhile, I’ll just ponder why my Lockjaw VIII is somehow considered a more powerful spell than my Slime Finger XXI.
Is there any other special key combinations that do anything, besides the ctrl-B and ctrl-M?
Istarted a second character and now have both running. bouv is my level 51 Low-Elf Mu-Fu Monk, while Aephos is my level twebty-something DOuble Wookie Shiv Knight. Aephos’s stats totaled 84 when I made him!
Several hours after I started my main character (WLight), I started up two new ones – one with stats totaling 44 (Cooze), the other with stats totaling 83 (Piebald). Piebald is significantly ahead of Cooze in experience (about half a level progress bar’s worth, which at level 54 is a lot), but not in the standings. Several hours after I started those two, I made a stab at trying to find a superior race/class combination and started Estella, again with stats totaling 83. Piebald has now passed WLight (whose initial stats totaled something like 75), and Estella has passed Cooze. They have all four been running continuously since I started them however many days ago.
So I woke up this morning and checked on them in the rankings – they were all 4 next to each other, with Cooze on top and Piebald on the bottom.
I’m giving up trying to figure out the ranking system. I’ll just get into the top 100 or something and get rid of it all.
Here’s a nagging thought that I keep having: The folks in the upper ranks are more likely to continue running. We’re only surpassing the folks who have given up and abandoned their characters. They’re not going anywhere.
But consider that there may be 500 people who all have the same goal you do (to reach the top 100). You’ll each continue until you’ve collectively mowed down those other sleepers… but then reach stalemate as you all continue at the same pace. That is, until 400/500 of you lose hope and bail out.
Better shine up your Ostentatious Scepter of Tenacity. You’ll need it.
I guess it just all depends on the number of people in the world who have:
Discovered PQ
The capability to run their machines 24/7.
I guess there may be more than 100 of these people. But I’m willing to bet there are fewer than 1000. The main problem is how drastically the experience requirements ramp up as you go along – I expect it’ll take a long time to get the next 10 levels and gain on the people that let their characters take breaks.
I’ve been running Bellwether since about 10 p.m. last Thursday, and I’ve only recently gotten below the 20,000 rank. Sheesh. And she’s only about 41st level.
Still, Belldame, Bellwether’s 8th-cousin-three-times-removed (on her daddy’s side), is already at lvl 28, and I think I started her out just this morning. Maybe she’ll progress a little faster.
[sub]Why am I still running this program, anyway?[/sub]
The novelty has worn off for me, I’m not running the game 24/7 anymore. I’ll still run it in the background when I can, but I probably won’t get much further in the rankings than I currently am.
So Jet Jaguar the Battle-Finch Hunter Strangler is currently level 51, act 8, and (probably peaked) at 10570 in the rankings.
OTOH, PQ has gotten me itching to play ADoM again, and I see a new version is out since I last played (which I am now downloading). Too bad ADoM requires actual interaction…
