I Fall To Pieces: An Autumn MMP

Happy Thorsday!

It was 28 degrees outside at the park this morning. BRRRRRR!
It wasn’t too terrible.
All the dogs were quite frisky.
Even lazy assed Ripple got out there and ran around.

My son cracks me up. He constantly bitches about the dogs and cat, they get on his nerves, he wishes they’d leave him alone, I never should have gotten them.
Then he spends all morning going to the door and calling for Adam because Adam stayed out all night and my son was afraid for him in the cold.

Yesterday was subscribe and save delivery day. All the boxes are still sitting in the hall. I should unpack them today. I should, doesn’t mean I will.

Shoe, I think the only thing will heal your friend is time.

shoe, I wish I could hug you and your friend. You’re obviously an incredibly empathetic, amazing person. You’ve gotten great advice from the Dopers. As Boo said, all you can do now is listen and breathe and try not to get buried under the mountain of grief. Keep putting one foot in front of the other, and encourage your friend to talk. Breathe.

Back from grocerying and filling my car. FCD has headed up to Annapolis to look at boats because he’s becoming obsessed… I told him I’d go with him tomorrow, but today I have to fetch Roxy, plus I just don’t want to go there right now. So I have a quiet house to myself, and I’m thinking knitting and TV are on my agenda. I got a used chicken, so it’s going to be rotissed for supper. I’ll set it up ready to go and FCD can get it started while I’m with Roxy. I’ll figure out the sides eventually.

It’s miserable out there today - dreary, overcast, and cold. Guess autumn is finally here, tho the temps are more winter-like.

My feet are freaking freezing, and I hate it. The waddle will just have to wait until it warms up a bit.

I’m really proud of overlygirl - she qualified for competitive swim, which she’s been working toward since May or June. What’s baffling to her dad is that she might not want to participate. I kind of get it because I could see myself doing something similar: you work toward it to prove to yourself that you can, then you move on because now that you’ve proved it, the thrill is kind of over. But…I’m hoping she’ll participate. It’s one of those few sports in the district that’s competitive but lower commitment. Oh, well - I’m not gonna force her, though I will encourage her to try it.

Y’all are the absolute bestest. (Is too a word!) Off to face another day.

The trees here are turning colors. The maples are breathtaking.

It’s nice to go to bed when it’s raining, and not be worried about water dripping into the house.

An hour ago I was thinking I’d post about two things, only I forgot one of them and I don’t remember the other one.

Morning all. Garbage has been collected and put out by the curb, and I can hear the truck in the neighborhood, so I’ll be bring the can back in shortly. Slept late today so need to forage for sustenance here shortly. Also signed up to referee two soccer games tomorrow night, so need to have gloves and cap available as the temperatures will be in the 40’sF.

shoe, just {{{ }}} since everyone has already said what needed to be said.

talky, good for overlygirl, and good for you for not pushing her beyond what she wants to do.

FCM, value those quiet moments, once Toby makes his appearance, they will be few and far between… And I may go see Dune, although I’m one of the few who actually thought the Lynch version did a respectable job on it. Haven’t read the book in 30+ years.

taters, need to plan your appointments better…

Swampy, y’all can always go Mongolian throat singing (google The Hu Wolf Totem) and maybe it won’t help with Public Health but you will feel like conquering Asia Minor…

OK, I think I hear a burger in the refrigerator that needs cooking and cheese. All y’all take care.

So SSLAW 2 was down when we started. Then SSLAW 1 broke, so we were standing around. Then SSLAW 2 sort of started working, when the belt stopped working. So were running halfway down the building to grab bags with a cart. And it’s not even Peak Season yet.

I don’t miss meeting. Hope they go smoothly.

I love some metal Mongolian throat singing.

flyboy congrats on the new roof!

They do their best!

swampy I’m sorry about your dr’s office. I hate that sort of nonsense.

shoe I think all you can do is repeat that it’s not her fault. The vet prescribed. She can make herself a more educated pet owner, but that doesn’t mean a) that she should be expected to do it to double-check her vet, or b) that she is a vet. Not. Her. Fault. I expect she’s in pain and grieving, and trying to find blame is a part of that. I don’t know if trying to guide her to remember the good things would be helpful at this stage, or whether she just needs to work through this.

Please don’t take “fixing” her onto your shoulders. Grief is difficult and personal. Maybe all you can do for now is listen, but that doesn’t make you a failure at friending. For now, maybe someone to listen is what she needs. I’m sending hugs. {{{shoe}}}

doggio Happy birthday to roomie!

I know just what you mean.

My mom’s dog is having gall bladder issues, so I’m getting frantic calls and emails about said dog not taking her pills. We’re going to the vet today to take Pixel in for a follow up, so I’m taking Mom along to interrogate the vet. Pixel is hopping around asking for food. Mind you, from a street dog that would eat almost anything including many things not considered edible, he now has very particular standards. Silly dog.

My husband is researching what is coming after tracking cookies in the world wide web, and humorously grumbling because all of the videos include pictures of real cookies and now he’s hungry.

I made instapot pot roast last night and it went over well. Now I need to figure out what to try next.

Happy Thursday everyone!

It’s really there for protection from vampires. A kukri is what Jonathan Harker used to kill Dracula.

Pouring rain with wind today. I was in the bathroom this morning, downloading some Republican talking points, when I thought “Good day for brownies!” They’re in the oven.

I Just got back from Costco. After I put the stuff in my car and was about to take the cart to the nearest corral, I guy got out of his car a couple of spaces down. He was wearing a Social Distortion hoodie. I said, ‘Hey, Social D!’ He appreciated the recognition. I took the cart to the corral and headed back to my car. The guy turned around and we ended up talking about the SoCal music scene in the '80s/'90s.

Speaking of call-back hoodies, Mrs. L.A. and I went to the cinema Friday, and there was a guy wearing a Troma/Toxic Avenger hoodie with matching pants. Now I want to get a copy of Sgt. Kabukiman, N.Y.P.D. or find my copy of Tromeo and Juliet.

I am worried about your thought progression here…

I’ve remembered one of them.

You may recall the Patio Heater Fiasco, wherein Mrs. L.A. bought a patio heater from Amazon that wouldn’t work. We were both very happy when she returned it and then bought a patio heater from Lowe’s. I put it together and it fired right up. That was a month and a half ago…

We noticed after not much use that the metal screen around the burner was ballooning out a bit. It has steadily gotten worse. The metal isn’t actually ‘ballooning’ as in 'expanding; it’s being compressed by the weight of the reflector on top of it. Metal heats, gets a little soft, and the weight above it starts squashing it, in slow motion, like a beer can. Mrs. L.A. contacted Lowe’s and they were very interested, and concerned, calling it a safety issue. As of yet, I don’t know if they have gotten back to her with a resolution.

Howdy Y’all! I did write an email to DPH about what happened and included a link to the website that states booster shots are given at the various sites. Now we shall see if anything comes of it all. Also, I got a text to fill out a patient satisfaction survey about my visit yestiddy. While I was nice and gave good ratin’s for the visit cause I was there to see the doc and such, in the comments section I wrote a loooooong complaint about the booster shot or lack thereof. Again, we shall see, what if anything, comes out of that. Other than that, sloth has ruled to day.

Spent a long time on the phone with one of my sisters. She had breast cancer 13 years ago, which meant a lumpectomy, radiation, and tamoxifen. Last week they found a microscopic spot in the same area where the teensy tumor had been, so she had an ultrasound today, and the radiologist is recommending a biopsy. She’s trying hard not to worry, but how do you not? She just asked if she could call me again in a bit, so I’m waiting for that.

I got a Friend request from a guy sat behind me in jr. high social studies. He wasn’t horrible, just sort of annoying at times. I think the girl next to him had a crush on him. I was surprised he even remembered me. I wouldn’t have recalled his name off the top of my head. I certainly wouldn’t have thought about friending him on FB. We don’t have any mutual friends, so it’s not like I would’ve been a Friend suggestion. People is weird.

And here I was admiring that very same thing.

flyboy, that patio heater sounds dangerous. I hope you get a full refund and a safe ,fuel-efficient heater (since Mrs. LA loves them so).

@swampbear , or, as befits you these days on your valiant quest for the Holy Grail, aka SpikeVax, Sir Swampsalot, is there any chance that “whoever it is that one sees first” (an RN? LPN? Tech?) was wrong and not the website and the person who checked you in? Just wondering.

Phone!

{{{shoe and friend}}} As others have said, she trusted the vet’s knowledge. Many times trusting the pros is about all we can do.

Irked, took Nelson to the dog park, came home, et and napped. I’s still tahred!

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

the epic colors are one thing I miss from Indiana … However I don’t miss the raking …fortunately step grandpa would let them dry and then mulch them with a lawnmower to feed the lawn for winter …

canceled aunt’s card for her after she lost it in one of her escapades a couple of days ago… today’s agenda is I need to get 100$ cause I half-heartedly made a promise to lend to someone figuring it wouldn’t be needed and to my chagrin it is and it was remembered …

Evening all. Just attended a on-line meeting for referees and in about 15 minutes I’ll start another one for coaches. Ain’t volunteering wonderful? Only mail today was my 2022 bill from the pest control place (I save 5% sending it in early), so that is in the ‘do tomorrow’ pile. Temperature is down to 47F heading for 36F tonight. Definitely need to get the BIG comforter out.

flyboy, you’re going to burn that patio down yet…

nellie, hope sis is OK, sounds like they caught it real early, so maybe nothing major. Doubt I’d even remember anyone from Jr. High Social studies–Jr. High was not a highlight of my life.

OK, time for my next meeting. All y’all take care.

Up from naptiime. I’ve gotten car bodywork offers from multiple businesses I use. Do they know something I don’t? I made Redneck stirfry for dinner.

MetalMouse, everybody I know who retired ended up busier than when they were working.

flyboy, you’re not having the best of luck with heaters. Have you considered just staying inside?
