Well not a ghost, per say but I have a little black fly in my bathroom. Which is not in itself remarkable, except…it’s been there for 5 years. One fly. Occasionally it goes AWOL for a week or 2, and once there was 3 flies. But generally one fly. It even came back the couple of times I’ve accidentally killed it. So I leave it alone, because it’s either tapped into some eldritch powers to make itself immortal, or perhaps, I pissed off a voodoo priest who cast a spell(Plague, Fly, 1). But instead of 1 plague of many flies, the Universe inflicted a plague of a single fly upon me. Anybody else got weird things in their life? If not hijack away.
DH and I have been having problems with pesky flies, too. Buddy has caught at least one in mid-air.
There have been at least a couple of instances where I was SURE I’d gotten one, but not very long after, I’m being buzz-plagued again.
Buddy woke up from a nap, and was bumbling around making very grouchy vocal noises. I can relate to the “just woke up” grumpies.
Anyone who owns a dog, or is owned by cats, should know by now: Flies = Sky Raisins.
They’re just entertaining snacks, apparently.
Oh, and may I be the first to wish my fellow 'Murrican Mumpers, a very happy Halloween!
(Do others partake?)
ETA: I tried twice for a barfy emoji and failed both times.
WoooOOOOoooooOOOOOoooooOOO!! Scary!!!
I get to take my BIL to the Dr today. FCD wants me there because BIL continues to deny that he fractured his skull and had a seizure. Despite his boss who called for the ambulance, despite the Xrays, despite his former Dr and neurologist, despite the loss of hearing on his right side, apparently it never happened. FCD did write a note to the Dr and included it in the new patient packet so she’d be prepared - I just hope she’s read it. And I’ve been drafted because FCD will be taking his folks to a lawyer to do powers of attorney and such at the same time BIL has his appointment. Lucky me.
Once that’s done, I’ve got a metric buttload of laundry to do. But I might save it till tomorrow when I’m downstairs with Tobias. We shall see how I feel when we get back. Also, I want to make gingerbread. Anybody got a worthy recipe? I found a few on line that look promising, but I trust Mumpers!
Speaking of grandkids, I ordered a stuffed baby sloth for Roxy. It was delivered yesterday. She named it Hello Kitty. My granddaughter is weird. The end.
And since it’s Halloween, we’ll be sitting in the dark with the shades drawn because we don’t give out candy. I’d leave a bowlful at the end of the driveway if I thought kids would not overdo it. But, nope, just gonna veg in the dark.
Happy Moanday and Happy Halloween!!!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 67 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 77 with rain allegedly happenin’ a little later this mornin’/afternoon. We shall see. Anywho, a good day to be inside and dry I reckon. We shall remain as inactive as possible for the most part. Sup shall be boxed lasagna (don’t judge!), sallit, and cheesey garlic bread.
We had a ghost fly in the guest bathroom a few years back. One day I was in there and saw it floatin’ in the terlet, so I flushed it. Thus, it either had decided to drown itself, or was takin’ a swim and I murdered it. It never came back, so I suppose I can now rest assured I will not be attacked by a zombie fly.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Moanday Y’all!
Mornin’ all. Like FCM I won’t be handing out candy. I’ll get some, just in case some kids stop by, but leave the lights off.
Onward! Must stop at the lumber store on the way to the shop.
Mornin’ everyone.
It’s currently 52 degrees with light rain falling. This will continue until noonish. Then we’ll have on again off again rain until 5:00 or so, finally settling into cloudy skies for the trick-or-treaters.
I will also have my lights off. Candy is just stupidly expensive too. If the grandkids trick or treated here, it would be different, but they don’t so I’ll sit inside and watch the Monday night trash TV hour and then watch other stuff.
I meant to comment in the last MMP about Next Door. I’m a member of my area but joined mainly so I could keep on construction and crime news. However, I’ve gotten really sick of the politics sweeping into the forum. No one shuts these dumb***** down either. I will probably quit the group.
Good luck with the BiL and doctor appointment today, FCM.
Congrats on the big job, paint! That’s really good news!
I do not have ghostly flies here. I think I’ve seen Polar catch a fly or two, but he doesn’t eat them. He will, however, eat spiders.
Time for another cup of coffee. I woke up at 1:30, 2:00, 3:00; 3:30, 4:00; 4:30 and finally gave up at 5:15. It’s going to be a long day.
Ursala Kitteh looks at flies buzzing then goes back to sleep. I’m gonna early vote today. Last week I ate the trick or treat candy (hey, it was a tough week) so last night went to the mart of the wall to restock. I was not the only one perusing the candy aisle……
Morning all. Stayed in bed until nearly 10am celebrating the (almost) end of soccer for the Fall, now need to catch up on work around the house…maybe starting tomorrow. If I get the car unloaded of all the soccer stuff and get it cleaned out, that’ll be a start. Was going to Texas Roadhouse early to my Sunday dinner, but it doesn’t open until 3:30pm, so I’ll do my shop-n-sammich-n-swinnin’-n-sauna routine and get a early dinner from them. At least that’s the plan.
Haven’t had a fly invasion since maybe August, the screens on the windows seem to do a pretty effective job of keeping most of them away.
Like I said in last weeks’ MMP, my candy bowl is filled and waiting, just keeping me away from it is the trick…
FCM, if he ain’t convinced now, he never will be; hope the Dr. can at least make recommendations to him.
OK, need to dress and get the shopping done…first I need a list. Take care all.
Good (late) morning everyone. Sat down, cracked my knuckles, and prepared to enlighten all of you with my wit, brilliance and impeccable good taste earlier this morning. But something got in the way so I’m late to the party.
It’s 60F outside, sunny and 75 predicted later. Not much on the agenda beyond fixing some stuff, and installing a new porchlight. Our old one decided it’s new task was to turn on for two seconds, then go back out. I assume it has retired, so off to various orange or blue box stores to find a cheap replacement. Also to vote, and maybe get a burger or some such.
As I seem to be channeling FCM, I am prepping for an 800 mile (round) trip to visit/help/interfere with aging relatives. Will be there all week doing minor chores and mainly just breaking up their lonely solitude. As a practicing PhD-level introvert, I am starting to see how horrible old age will be for all the extroverts. But, enough of that – I’ll save it for another thread on aging -n- stuff.
The “Bloop”. A sound not unlike the popping of a mud-pit bubble (like you hear on Yellowstone specials). It can be heard downstairs, below the floor on the east end of the house, when everything else is silent. It “bloops” every 3-4 seconds continuously, very softly, and has done so for the 30 years we’ve lived here. I have no idea what it is, and neither does anyone else. You can only hear it in total silence, and as far as I know it happens 24/7. Your guess is as good as mine. Either it’s completely harmless or we’re in for a big surprise one day.
Hope everyone has a good week. I’ll be mostly on the road, but am looking forward to some good audiobooks!
Short heave today. I won’t be handing out candy either. If some kid stops by, maybe I’ll offer 'em a shot of Jack or something.
Morning, all. The bowl is full of full-size Snickers bars, so bring on the trick or treaters! I think I bought enough. I have a back-up bag of smaller stuff, just in case. Would be a pity if nobody showed up and I had to eat it all by myself…
Had a giant horsefly buzzing around the office yesterday until Tango heard it. He managed to get a snack without totally trashing my desk, so win-win.
I got a new oxygen concentrator Thursday (the old one, all of less than a month old, was unreliable and would just die, leaving me stranded). Yesterday my granddaughter named the new one “Grams”. She had never named the first POS one~maybe that should have been a clue.
Yep, grandbabbies can be weird (and I love it!).
@nelliebly went in early this morning for surgery. Here’s hoping we hear soon from her that it was all treat and no trick.
You sure you’re name is Margaret?

Realized that if I go out to eat tonight I might not be home for Trick-or-Treat, so will switch Monday and Tuesday dinners around, because I’m flexible like that. Shop-n-Sammich done, and can go the gym later than usual because hey, no soccer practice.
yankers, safe travels and good on ya for going. I think we all have some odd sound around the house, but a 24-hour ‘bloop’ is different, I must admit.
fingers crossed for nellie
And onward into the day…
Dr appt with BIL wasn’t too bad. I’m glad I was there, tho. His concussion/fractured skull resulted in hearing loss, and couple that with a doctor who had an accent, and I needed to be the one communicating. He didn’t seem to resent me being there - I did ask - and all in all, I think it went well. He got 2 referrals plus a lab order and an appt for a full physical in 4 weeks. FCD will deal with that.
Once we finished with them all, my sweetie and I went to Red Robin for lunch. Now we’re home and I’ve got a load in the washer and 3 or 4 more on deck - probably just 3. It’ll be easier to do laundry today than trying to do it while wrangling a toddler.
Speaking of toddlers - prepare for cute overload!!!
And his sister, the tall one!
OK, that’s enough for now. You realize that in an earlier time, I’d be the grandmother with the looooooong photo holder in my wallet. Nice thing about doing this on line - I don’t have to see anyone roll their eyes and go Not again!!!
BTW, I hit the powerball so I won a whopping $4 on Saturday’s drawing. I’m going to convert it into 2 tickets for tonight’s billion dollar drawing. Fingers crossed…
OK, carry on.
Prayers said and fingers crossed for **nellie **. Do we know what surgery she is having? FCM those are some cute grandchildren. I voted (sadly there was no option to vote the straight D ticket so Ihad to do it one by one). It’s drizzly outside. Eating leftover Domino’s chicken nuggets for lunch. They’re most excellent.
I’m just going “awww…so very, very cute”.
Happy Moonday!
Happy Halloween!
Quiet morning at the park, in the 40s with a little rain.
No drama.
Lui mom is back from vacation, so there was a happy reunion with the pups.
Cerby ran his chunky ass off and all three have been napping since we got home.
He is definitely a chunk.
I’m not sure if he needs to go on a diet yet. I can’t feel his ribs, but he still has a waist and a tuck up.
He almost knocked me down jumping on me. As much as he has fun at the park, he is always happy to leave, and we weren’t leaving fast enough for him.
We’ll be sitting in the dark tonight.
Too much commotion with the dogs wanting to see who is at the door. We almost never use the front door, so my dogs associate it with deliveries, and are excited to see what we got.
Nothing weird in this house.
Well, sometimes I can smell perfume, and nothing I wear. Sometimes I can smell cigarette snoke too, but I figure scents get into the woodwork and sometimes get released, depending on the temperature and humidity.
One past house… some weirdness there.
Finding little toys in the middle of the living room, that could be blamed on the dogs finding stuff the previous owners may have left behind and dragging it out. Coming home to see a set of a child’s wet footprints across the floor, that slowly disappeared was not so easily explained.
And the knocking. If I knocked back, there would be even more knocks. Until one night they were keeping me awake and I yelled at them to stop because I wanted to sleep. Never heard the knocking again.
I bought that house from bikers and rumor was that they had buried a body under the front porch. Kind of a dumb place to bury a body I’d think. Out front where everybody can see you. It would have made more sense to bury it in the crawl space under the two back rooms that had been added onto the house. All you’d have to do is go into the basement, open one of the windows in the back, and crawl under the back rooms. It would have been tight, but nobody would see you.
I loved that house; too bad the neighborhood went down or I’d probably still be living there.
However, when you have a drug lord knocking on your door at 6am, wanting the gun back that his flunky threw into your yard the night before, it’s time to move.
I have a list of 28 things to do today.
So far I have done 5, I need to get moving.
Crossing my fingers for nellie as well.
Had to knock off work early due to some children thinking my office light (I’m right next to the front door) means they can ring the door bell to get candy. I’m not handing out candy and my neighbords will definitely not appreciate me letting the kids in the building as Halloween is really not done here.
We still have mosquitoes, but it looks like the weather’s finally going to change to fall, after the warmest October ever. It’s definitely going to be a shock after wearing sandals until the last week.
