Gear hounds have been with us since the Roman days. Based on my USAF-attached-to-Army experience 28(!) years ago, you’ll get issued about 90% of what you absolutely need, and about 150% of what you actually want to lug around.
Wait till you get there & know what a week-in-the-life is really like. A 702 with a custom Kimber pistol is a pitiful sight to behold.
And no, RandMcNally, the USAF didn’t (doesn’t?) issue flyboys all the cool toys they want. There are always more cool toys to be had. But pilot cool toys & infantryman cool toys are different.
Other than sunglasses of course!
