I drove myself to the County Library.
Snuck ONE corndog from Sonic. I wanted more but I didn’t(do you HEAR that, nutritionist?)
I pulled in the huge rambling parking lot of Walmart. On a little grassy island was a elderly man and stroller. He held a sign saying ‘Me and Dixie need help’
I pulled over and rolled my window down. Oh, man the guy was VERY old. In the stroller was a ancient Dachshund with creepy white eyes. I handed him 5 one dollar bills.
I keep dog food in my car for the Walmart dog.
I got out and got the bag of food out and handed it to the guy. The dog started whining and he immediately gave her some in an empty cat food can and poured water in it with the kibble. The dog was hungry. I felt so bad for the poor old thing trying to chew hard kibble. I talked to the man for a few minutes. As I was there another car pulled up and handed him a bag of pop-top canned of dog food. I was so glad that person did that. I showed the old guy pix of my spoiled pets. I was ashamed at how fat Betsy the Beagle is. She is now on a re-newed diet plan. I swear.
I know sometimes these folks are just wanting cash for liquor or drugs. It’s very hard not to judge.
I’m very happy I stopped and heard a little of his life and got to meet Dixie. My heart swelled as he waved at me when I left the parking lot.
I feel good about this very small thing I did today. (:))
Bless you, Beck.

Dixie is a stoopid name for a Dachshund!
Oh, wait…
That was such a kindness. Are there any services for homeless people in your area? It’s so rural, I can’t imagine there are. Just wondering where the poor old guy and Dixie spend their nights.
Paying it forward, Beck. hugs
Well done, Beck.
Not many services in this area. If it gets really inclimate they open the county lockup and deputies go gather up the few street folks there are. I doubt a dog would be allowed. I am happy the weather is mild, right now. He told me he was looking to get to southern Mississippi.
Poor old thing.
Good for you, Beck. The man seemed to be just passing through. Any idea where he was from and how he got around?
He told me he rode in the back of a pick-up truck from Little Rock to Camden, early in the morning. I didn’t ask where he would sleep tonight.
I told him where the Catholic church was. They do meals for the elderly for free or cheap most evenings.
Not only that, but you fed his dog. I hope that he had a nice hot meal tonight. Beck, contrary to your oft-told assertion, you are good, good, good.
Well, I know that Dixie did have to take a shit a bit later.
OK, that was unnecessary.
Well done Becks!
Well done Beck, but I must protest: There are NO small acts of kindness. Any act of kindness is very big.
I call them simple acts of kindness, and try to do one every day.
I told the lil’wrekker about the old Man and Dixie .
She broke her pinkie toe Sunday afternoon at her dorm. It was still hurting today. I told her to come home or go to the campus infirmary. She decided to go to the infirmary. Outside the place is a bank of coke machines. A girl had put her dollar in. It ate her dollar and didn’t give her a drink or change. Standing in line the lil’wrekker saw this go down and watched the girl fumbling looking for more money. My sweet baby daughter walked (limped) over and put a dollar in and ask her what she wanted. That got the girl a drink and her dollar came back out. She tried to give it to the lil’wrekker.
They stood in line and talked. Turns out they are both studying in the same program. Just different years. She sez she made a new friend over a can of Dr.Pepper and a dollar, and she would’ve never done that if I hadn’t told her of my tale.
She’s a good girl.
Cool.
Turns out the lil’wrekkers toe was not broken. The infirmary sent her to the hospital to have it x-rayed. It was out of joint. She said the Doctor was fiddling with it and talking to her and he jerked on it real hard. She said it hit her like fire for 1 second. And then instant relief.
She’s happy, I’m happy.
Win win!!
