I figured out why I'm not sleeping well.

I think I figured out why I’m not sleeping well. At least, in part.

My latest box of **DECAF **green tea has **GINSENG **in it. :smack:

WHY!
WHY!
FOR THE LOVE OF [insert your favorite deity here] WHY WOULD ANYONE PUT A STIMULANT IN DECAF GREEN TEA?
Sorry. Just had to vent. Thanks for listening.

Feel free to actually insert your favorite deity…

I recently started drinking Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime tea at night. Tastes good and it helps me sleep better.

They wanted you to have an active dream life?

Uh . . . I got nothing. I take melatonin if I needs the sleepies.

That depends on why you are trying to avoid caffeine.

Personally, I don’t find that caffeine interferes with my ability to sleep. However, I have raynaud’s and as a consequence there are some circumstances where I would want to avoid any vasoconstrictors. Decaf tea with added ginseng is just the ticket in these circumstances, because ginseng inhibits the vasoconstrictive effect of the residual caffeine that remains in “decaf.”

This is also a good option for anyone wanting a “warm up” hot beverage that doesn’t actually make you colder.

I’m a Triple Leaf guy myself, but they have one that looks like the same ingredients. I bought some on the way home…will try it tonight.

Hey! I’m trying to vent here! I don’t need reality intruding! :stuck_out_tongue:
Just kidding…actually, I assumed there were people who couldn’t do caffeine for one reason or another, but still wanted a “pick-me-up.” Now I know one of the possible reasons. A bit of ignorance fought.

The cool thing about Green tea, though, is not caffeine, but the theanine. It helps you relax, but does not decrease energy or alertness. In fact, for a while, it was thought to be excitatory, but now the stimulant effect is assumed to be mostly from the caffeine.
