Great news, Doob. It’s fantastic that you have parents that are that understanding and cool about it. This must be a huge load off your mind.
Good lucks with the sibs.

That’s so awesome Doob. I’m so happy for you. I think dpr said it best: Wooooo!
I think the gay smiley needs a silk scarf. Possibly pink?
Oh…My…God…Doob is gay…I never would have guessed that. I’m glad it went well for you and that your parents are so supportive. Before you know it you will fall in love…

Coming out to family must be one of the hardest things that anyone can ever do. Doob and Punha, you two have more than enough strength to conquer worlds.
Yay Doobie!! Congrats on having the courage to tell your ultra-cool parents!
Alright, Doob! I’m glad it went so well!
Actually, right now I’m suffering from lack of sleep (didn’t want to oversleep and miss a sociology exam, so I stayed up all night instead), but I appreciate the compliment.
Let us also remember others who have come out to their parents (and this is by no means an exclusive list, just “who Punha can remember who has come out to his/her parents”):
matt_mcl
Esprix
andygirl
quietgirl
goboy
There are bound to be people I’ve forgotten who have come out but I don’t remember reading about it. I may incorrectly remember, what’s more.

That is hella cool, Doob! I’m very happy for you. It’s reassuring to see parents like yours.
HUZZAH! Doob Congrats on the bravery. Your parents are too cool.
As someone who can’t imagine talking about my white-bread heterosexuality with my mother, I applaud you for your bravery, Doob.
That’s got to be a big weight off your shoulders, and I’m glad for you that it went well. Your parents sound awesome.
Congrats, Doob! That’s absolutely smashing news. Your parents sound wicked cool, and I’m sure telling the siblings will go just as well.
Awe-inspiring, Doob. Congratulations. Your folks sound great, but having had the pleasure of talking with their son, that comes as no surprise.
Good luck with telling the siblings; that was the hardest part of the coming-out process for me. That, and receiving endless newspaper clippings from my Mom about how to avoid getting AIDS… (“Mom, I know already… Yeah, okay, but… I can’t get aids if I’m not having sex, you know…”)
You, much like Esprix, rock.
Ah, I remember the days…
Congrats, my precious petal Doob. May every worry in your life let you off the hook as easily as this one.
By comparison, classic quotes from my own coming out:
Now, keep in mind that was, oh, 14 years ago (just passed my anniversary, as a matter of fact, which I recommend to you to celebrate every year, Doob). Of late my mother has mused on becoming a lesbian if my father should pass away, and she was very upset I dumped Dr. Boyfriend to move to the west coast because, well, he’s a doctor. She’s come a long way, baby!
Esprix
Great news, Doob! Sometimes boring is good. And please pass on my thanks to your mom and dad for being the kind of parents I wish everyone could have. Good luck with the sibs, but it sounds like your family’s got a pretty reasonable attitude.
So…when ARE you going to bring a nice fellow home to meet your mom?
Damnit! Euty beat me to it!
aw, well, in lieu of the running gag; GO DOOB! G’head, slap my ass for luck.
Well, gosh, he has to meet me first, in real life, at the NoCal/SoCal Dopefest this summer. I think that’s a reasonable first step before I meet the in-laws, don’t you think?
Esprix
Yay, Doob!!! I’m glad to hear it went well for you.
(Of course, I have the opposite experience; that is, trying to convince my otherwise accepting mother that I am not a lesbian.)
Robin
Great show, Doob! Glad it went well, but more importantly, I’m glad you found the strength to do it. That has gotta be one of the toughest things to do, even if you suspect that it will go well.
I agree with Esprix. You ought to have a little celebration each year.
Doobieous, I’m really happy for you.
:buys Doob a Gay Pirate:
Will your parents adopt my friend Mikey? He came home from the Foreign Service in Romania to tell his mom and dad that he was gay in March. They kicked him out of the family.
I’ll never understand why. He’s the same lovable Mikey he was 5 minutes before he told them.
While that is, undoubtedly wonderful news, I agree with you, it’s a little dull.
I mean, really, this is not the kind of story to send you embarking on a wonderous new adventure.
Yes, it’s lovely and all, but let’s be realistic, he’s going to have to repeat this story and, no doubt in the gay community. I say it’s time for a little tweaking.
Sure, we know the truth, Mom and Dad know the truth but that’s no reason we couldn’t punch this storyline up a little.
Seriously, I know you’re all thinking it too,
Where’s the drama? The tears? The histronics?
No scratching of eyes, waving of arms.
And costumes, where are the costumes?
Not a single person locked a bathroom?
I’m sorry this just won’t do, we cannot send you out into the hard cruel gay world without a better story than this.
Dopers I just KNOW we can improve on this, I mean, come on there’s a twin brother for crikey’s sake!
Who’s with me?
