I finally did it......they know...

Excellent! It’s always good to hear a happy coming-out story. My friend had a good one too but I don’t want to steal your thunder. I hope it goes as well with the rest of your family.

If I had an announcement like that to make, I’d be tempted to use e-mail.

Ok, now the entire immediate family know, plus my older bro’s fiancee. They all took it well, except my twin who said:

“you’re kidding”

to which I said:

“no i’m not, why are you so shocked?”

Then he went through the rest of the call assuring me he’s cool about it (though by some of his comments during, he’s not fully, but well, he’ll get used to it). Oh well, he cant talk about me much, he has a whole host of his own problems :). The older brother actually took it well. When i told him he said “oh, ok”. But he asked me a couple of things:

“When did you know you were gay?”

“When did you know you were straight?”

He got the picture ;). Then he asked if I have a BF. His fiancee said “What a question to ask!”. So all in all it was a good reaction (i told him tonight). So, now the family knows. Today was a good day, yes it was.

Doob, my friend, I am so glad this went over so well. This is the kind of reaction you said you expected from family, and it is great when expectations are met and surpassed by the ones we love. Great big kudos go out to the Doob household, they all handled really well. I am happy for you, Doob. But, I am also happy for your family, they accepted you as you are, and they were happy with.
I have said it before and I will say it again. Doob’s family rocks!
Great news!

pat

ps:
Never having a GF means you are gay? I got some splaining to do.

Oh Doob, that’s SUPER!

Really great that you have such an accepting family…you lucky man!

Wow, I think that is the fookin’ coolest news, ever. Congratulations go to your parents for their open mind and clear head. And a big congrats to you for working up the nerve to face the situation.

I am truly envious.

Tibs.

It wasnt too hard. All of us get so unexcited about things, i didnt expect a big reaction (and i really didnt get one :)). It’s funny my twin acted so surprised, i mean, we lived in the same room for 18 years of our lives. Although he later admitted to um…coming across…certain drawings i did, LOL. Oh well, he’ll come across a lot more when he comes to visit the next time.

I’m happy bro’s fiancee has no problem. Especially since she was a former JW. But, she always seemed the black sheep of her family so it seems fitting.

But this even cements how polar I am with my twin. We’re so polar, we’re even opposites on sexual preferences ;). Mom says one of her priest friends (who is cool about it) was noting how polar I am to my twin.

I can see their PFLAG sign now:

My son is a gay Straight Doper!

Congrats Doob!
Glad to hear it all worked out well, very cool family BTW.
Now get off your ass and go get some!

Woo Hoo! You’re out, your 'rents are cool about it and you’re willing to come over to The Hooded Side™. Life just doesn’t get any better than that!

Jeg elsker dig, Thomas

Thanks! And as I said in the other side, i cant wait to visit the The Hooded Side™! Oh what fun shall be had.

Ab: i will get some, hold yo’ horses, dude
