Sorry, no pics. I’ve been here for eight and a half years, and yesterday was the first time I’ve seen a frog up here. There’s a large, rotten stump near the house. It’s probably been there since the house was built in 1934. Ivy had completely covered it, and my friend I bought the house from called it Cousin Itt. Unfortunately, ivy has a habit of trying to get into the house, and it damages the nearby chimney. I pull it from the chimney, but Cousin Itt remained… until the SO dumped poison on it(t). She didn’t mind Cousin Itt, and admitted it was kind of pretty; but she was tired of the ivy trying to get inside the house. So yesterday I pulled all of the ivy off the stump, and pulled al of the roots I could find.
As I was pulling weeds (or low growing decorative shrubbery – I can’t tell the difference) I spied a little frog, about two inches long in the body. It was brown, with yellowish stripes. Cute little thing. It stayed put while I was weeding, and left many minutes later after it figured I would not notice its movement. I’m sure I’ve heard frogs here before, but this is the first one I’ve actually seen. We had a nice population of frogs when I lived in the Mojave Desert. I hadn’t thought about it, but now that I’ve seen one I think I should see more frogs up here where it’s wet.
