While I agree that this is heart-warming, I fear what a mass emigration of liberal Americans to Canada might bring – it’d be only a matter of time before the remaining conservatives took it into their heads to “spread freedom” up here, on account of our socialist policies and tolerance and enthusiasm for Cuban tobacco and holidays. Oh, and our oil reserves.
I’m kinda hoping I can convince my American of the same thing.
I mentioned to Dave last night that all of the gay Americans should move north, because Canada needs more people. He remarked that it would be a one-generation population boom. :smack:
I fucking love one Canadian, and I suppose I could get to really really like lots more. My husband (the Canadian) and I had decided before the election that I should join him in Vancouver, because he’s on 4 different meds, and we can’t count on health insurance down here, but since the election I’m even more eager to go. I’m thinking I’ll be there by spring, or if not, I’ll be in Seattle by then, which is at least much closer than where I am now. We just have to figure out if I have to save enough money to live on for 6 months, or if I can get in with a work permit. Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated, but not in this thread.
The income requirement. My husband is currently living on assistance. He was about to go into a training program, but had an extremely bad reaction to lithium. Basically, it made him delusional and paranoid, (isn’t that what it’s supposed to cure?), and so he didn’t get recommended for the program. He’s off the lithium, and fine now, but he’ll have to convince the bureaucracy of that. I am able bodied, and have office skills, but so do a lot of Canadians, so I can’t guarentee I’ll find work, now can I?
Sure, all these lefty Americans say they’re serious about wanting to come up here, but they take one look at the climatological data for Saskatoon and I never hear from them again.
