I fucking love Canadians!!!

It’s satire.

But yes, a legal same-sex marriage or civil union is grounds for family-class immigration, and you can get married in Canada without residing here.

However, please note that family-class immigration is not automatic; there are a number of requirements, which you can read about here:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/ = Citizenship and Immigration Canada
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/sponsor/index.html = Family-class immigration

Here’s what they say about same-sex partners:

I’ve already done my bit. I’m a Canadian citizen married to a leftist American, from the Bay Area, no less.

And believe me, these last couple of days have left me seriously thinking about a northward exodus.

Well, there is a DopeFest in Toronto on the 11th of December. Come on up and give us, er, I mean, this place a test drive!

Oh, that’s it - Canada is so on the Axis-of-EvilTM now.

Psst…Take the sample size 9.

While I agree that this is heart-warming, I fear what a mass emigration of liberal Americans to Canada might bring – it’d be only a matter of time before the remaining conservatives took it into their heads to “spread freedom” up here, on account of our socialist policies and tolerance and enthusiasm for Cuban tobacco and holidays. Oh, and our oil reserves.

Pchhhh! Larry! Ne mentionne pas les réserves de pétrole devant les Américains ! Ne les mentionne pas ! Tu veux nous faire tuer ou quoi ?

I’m kinda hoping I can convince my American of the same thing.

I mentioned to Dave last night that all of the gay Americans should move north, because Canada needs more people. He remarked that it would be a one-generation population boom. :smack:

I fucking love one Canadian, and I suppose I could get to really really like lots more. My husband (the Canadian) and I had decided before the election that I should join him in Vancouver, because he’s on 4 different meds, and we can’t count on health insurance down here, but since the election I’m even more eager to go. I’m thinking I’ll be there by spring, or if not, I’ll be in Seattle by then, which is at least much closer than where I am now. We just have to figure out if I have to save enough money to live on for 6 months, or if I can get in with a work permit. Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated, but not in this thread.

Well, here is a story of one Canadian who couldn’t get out of the USA fast enough after the election…

Yike!

I think it’s the ‘naked’ part that gets to me.

Have there ever been any cases where a plane comes in to land, they put down the wheels, and someone falls out?

From matt_mcl’s post above: Family sponsored immigration stuff

Is there any reason you wouldn’t qualify?

Sometimes, but usually they freeze in place

Yeah, but if they survive they’ll be perfectly prepared for the Canadian winter.

The income requirement. My husband is currently living on assistance. He was about to go into a training program, but had an extremely bad reaction to lithium. Basically, it made him delusional and paranoid, (isn’t that what it’s supposed to cure?), and so he didn’t get recommended for the program. He’s off the lithium, and fine now, but he’ll have to convince the bureaucracy of that. I am able bodied, and have office skills, but so do a lot of Canadians, so I can’t guarentee I’ll find work, now can I?

That should be “No good behind will be left American.”

Not necessarily. You hets aren’t the only ones with biological clocks, you know!

~kfl, who has a date with a turkey baster in 2-3 years

Sure, all these lefty Americans say they’re serious about wanting to come up here, but they take one look at the climatological data for Saskatoon and I never hear from them again. :frowning:

Any of you Merkins wanna come up to my place…

You can’t reason with a man making a joke (which that was).
