How retarded is this?
Back in September, I went to deposit my paycheck in my bank’s ATM machine. I signed it, stuck it in the slot, and waited for my receipt. “Transaction incomplete.” No receipt, no check. I go to what used to be my bank. (Fleet just changed to Sovergn in most of Massachusetts.) They can’t help me, because I have a Fleet account, and they’re not Fleet. The nearest Fleet is 6 towns away. I’m leaving for New York in about 4 hours, tons of stuff to do still. I go home, call customer service. Explain what happened. Apparently, the machine malfunctioned at the time I deposited my check, and they had to look into it. Agreed to issue me a temporary loan until they resolved the matter. I don’t hear from them for a while, I give the info to my mom, because she yells louder than I do, and gets more stuff accomplished that way. Mid October, they send me a letter saying they didn’t find anything, and I need to get the check reissued from work, and that they’re retracting the loan from my account. I call the service center for McDonalds, and ask them to cancel the check for me. They have to look into it, they’ll get back to me. 3 days later, they fax me the check, it’d been cashed. Someone within Fleet cashed my check. And I had no way to prove that I didn’t have the money, because I signed it…I’d been trying to deposit it, so of course the check had my sig on it. I go to the Fleet 6 towns away, they’re incompetent. I wanted to cancel my account, but I knew that if I were no longer a customer, I’d never get my money back. So I just set up another bank account, and I’ve been using that while maintaining a minimum balance at Fleet. I had to borrow money from my mom, because my account was pretty dry. I still owe her $300. So finally, I got a call from the bank that my mom’s been dealing with for me. They’re accepting that the error was on their side, and they’re taking the loss. I get my $233.12 bak in my account effective tomorrow, and you can bet that account will be closed as soon as possible. And I’ve set up direct deposit on my paychecks, so I won’t have to deal with this crap again. It took me 3 months to get this straightened out, and all I did was deposit my paycheck! So to all you dopers out there, beware of the ATM machine! Believe me, it’s a real big pain in the ass, and something I’d rather not have to deal with.
your mom is da woman! She better be getting a big xmas present from you! Something worth $233.12 haha.
You know if you ever have a problem with a company, just talk with the manager, and be persistant. The higher up you go (manager wise) The easier it will be for you to get what you want, considering you are correct. The customer is always right.
