Yay me! After hating my job since time immemorial, I finally found myself a new gig!
A couple of weeks ago, I’d finally had it with my current job. I currently work for a consulting company… with zero customers to work for. (A Chapter 11 filing and being acquired scared off most of our clients nicely.)
I’d had almost no work to do for the last year and a half (in my job, I’m supposed to be able to bill about 80-85% of my time to clients… my best week over the last six months was just over 50%). I found myself bored and hating every second I was sitting in my cubicle. (And thanking providence for the invention of the Internet and the SDMB, without which I would have gone violently and homicidally insane. My co-workers should be thanking all of you right now.)
So after posting a thread in MPSIMS hunting for tips and tricks on changing careers (something I’ve given a lot of thought to), I did some online job searching and sent my resume to several companies… and got three interviews in the course of two weeks! One of them was with a small firm here in Chicago who’s looking for someone to do a mix of technical work and business development, and that’s exactly what I’d like to do! I got an offer from them last week and gave my notice the next day. My last day in this pee-pee-stained heck-hole is next Tuesday, I’m takin’ a couple of days off to relax, and I’m starting the new job before Labor Day!
It’s just such a good feeling to be leaving a job that I absolutely hate (and where there’s little stability) and going to a place where I will be busy, interested with the work, and fully engaged for the first time in forever. Hooray!
