I was only out of work for about a month. Now I’m in the fourth week of a much better job. More responsibility, more money, and Friday I move into the big corner office! (I’m trying to decide if it’s because they like me or because they want to move me away from everyone else… :dubious:)
Anyway, this one feels like a real job. That last thing felt like amateur hour right from the start. I liked my immediate coworkers and it was a fun place to work (other than the Kafkaesque way it ended), but I couldn’t see how it could last. It was a startup and they didn’t seem to be able to sell anything we did.
Before that, for a number of years I had nothing but occasional freelance computer work and whatever else I could get, including mystery shopping, retrieving recalled goods from retail stores, and doing online evaluations of search engine results (yes, those are all real, paying jobs).
You have that right. My (involuntary) freelance whatever makes money lifestyle left me lacking the quarters needed to qualify for unemployment, so I would have rapidly run out of options.
Well, at that last job the raid did occur on the day I was moving into my own office…
But the move yesterday went without a hitch and without any raids. Actually a bunch of people were changing offices. It was kind of like “musical offices”. Some of the moves made no sense to me - why move someone one office down the hall to another identical office (and this was after moving the original occupant of that office into my old office)? But mine is not to question why…
Since part of my job is IT support, I had to move and re-hookup everyone’s computer equipment. Some of the people being moved were company bigwigs, which made me a little nervous. Fortunately it went well and they even seemed impressed that it was done so quickly and everything was working correctly afterward. So I guess I’ve made a good impression in my first month.
That’s weird. I have no idea how bucketybuck’s message got quoted in my last reply. I was only trying to quote luv2draw’s post. Maybe a mod can remove the extraneous quote.
Thank you! Never thought to post my own ad. I look there and am careful because of a lot of junk postings so I guess I can be careful looking at responses to mine. You never know…
